Reagan Beuerlein, Staff Writer and Social Media Director

Feb. 14. is the date of “love.” Whether you are in a relationship or not, this day is made to remind you how loved you are. It is easy to feel this way when you see your significant other on this one day a year, but when you can’t, it can get a little difficult.

Today, we are going to be interviewing a Servite Alumni and a Rosary Alumna. Brock Beuerlein and Evelyn LeVecke are graduates from the class of 2022. They have been dating for almost 2 years (1 year and 9 months to be exact) and attend two different colleges. Brock plays football at Benedictine College in Kansas, and Evelyn attends Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio. Another couple being mentioned today is Kate Marshall, who graduated from Rosary in 2019, and attends University of Portland, and Cade Rosenkranz, who graduated at Servite in 2019 and goes to Texas Christian University. Unfortunately, these couples will not be able to see each other on Feb. 14th, but that certainly does not affect the love they have for each other.

In the spirit of Valentine’s Day, I thought it would be fun to do a Q&A with them and hopefully give any seniors in a relationship some advice for long distance in case they are thinking of attempting the challenge. Brock and Evelyn answered individually, while Kate and Cade answered together.

How long have you been doing long distance for?

Evelyn and Brock: Since August, or six months.

Cade/Kate: Since August of 2019, so four years and about five months.

What is the hardest part about it?

Brock: The hardest part about long distance is not being able to experience or do fun new things together.

Evelyn: The hardest part of long distance is not being able to see each other for longer periods of time, and just knowing you have to go back to an entirely different life at school.

Cade/Kate: The hardest part is having to spend so much time apart, but we both feel so lucky to at least have a little bit of time each day to FaceTime/call and stay up to date with each other’s lives!

What makes it worth it?

Brock: Long distance is worth it because it shows our true appreciation and commitment to each other. Although it’s hard at times, it is way more rewarding.

Evelyn: What makes the time worth it is when we are together. Our time is way more meaningful and valuable.

Cade/Kate: We make it worth it for each other! We are each other’s rock, and it is the best having a trip to visit each other and look forward to. When we’re together in person it’s like no time has passed- it’s the best! We are each other’s favorite person and long distance has been worth it and we feel lucky to have such a healthy, special relationship with each other.

What advice would you give people if they were thinking of taking on a long distance relationship?

Brock: Advice that I would give people about long distance is to never forget the little things because they go a long way. Don’t forget to text them throughout the day and ask how they are doing, don’t forget to call or Facetime them when you can, and definitely don’t forget to say I love you.

Evelyn: Agreeing with what Brock said, I also think you need to try and not compare your relationship to others. Everyone is different as well as their experience. It may seem like you are going through the same thing, but in reality you’re not.

Cade/Kate: Advice we would give is for sure to prioritize each other and find new ways to show your dedication because that is very important. There is nothing you can really do but communicate through the phone, so make sure you are staying honest… Express your feelings, tell each other everything, and find ways to make the relationship feel special! We like to do date nights on FaceTime where we order dinner and watch a movie at the same time which may seem weird and cringe, but it is fun! We are super trusting of each other which is key because long distance would not work without it. Communication and trust are key!

Clearly long distance love is not easy, but both couples are proving it can work.
