It’s the season for family, friends, food, football, and most of all giving thanks. Thanksgiving traditions vary, from watching the football game that’s on to even waking up early to help cook. Here are some awesome Rosary faculty and student traditions that are celebrated every Thanksgiving:

Mrs. Rosales, from the Religion Department, had such a sweet tradition. She shared that like other families, her Thanksgiving has a turkey, stuffing, and mashed potatoes, but she also celebrates the birth of her first daughter. Mrs. Rosales explained how her daughter came home from the Hospital on Thanksgiving, and every year they celebrate her. Mrs. Rosales shared, “For her first birthday, she had pumpkin pie and every few years her birthday falls on Thanksgiving day like it does this year. It makes it extra special and we always try to make a dessert of her choice. This year we are decorating her spot at our Thanksgiving table.” From making her favorite dessert, to even decorating her spot at the table, Mrs. Rosales and her family will do anything to prove how truly thankful they are for her.

This is Mrs. Langenwalter’s first Thanksgiving married. So, she shared that this year, “We are having Thanksgiving on Friday (Thursday we will be with my side of the family) with my husband’s family.” She explained that they will spend both days eating yummy Thanksgiving food, listening to music, and playing games.
Speaking of games, Mrs. Jenkins had a fun tradition to share. She shared that, “after everyone is finished feasting, we play Loteria (Mexican Bingo)! So fun!”

Daniela Arias ’23, shared a unique tradition. Every Thanksgiving her family sings Karaoke, but not just like that. She proceeded to share that, “each Thanksgiving, my crazy family and I have done karaoke till the wee hours of night. I’m talking like 2:00 a.m. to 3:00 a.m. I usually can only hang for a few songs, but still, the tradition is super fun and hilarious.”

Thanksgiving traditions are a great way to strengthen bonds within family and friends, and are important to pass on to future generations of family. This Thanksgiving, try something new. Whether that’s playing a fun game, or adding a new food to the Thanksgiving menu, pass it on. Have a safe and fun Thanksgiving break Royals!
