Halloween is here! The time has come, and since Halloween falls on a dreaded Monday, that means this Friday marks the official start of Halloweekend. To make the most of this year’s Halloween, plan out your weekend to be jam-packed with four days of costumes, parties, and Halloween activities!

We are here to be your guide to have the best weekend ever. Consider going big on the following activities:

Pumpkin Carving

This Halloween activity is a classic. You can get a group of friends together, wear cute fall outfits, and carve or paint pumpkins. You can carve any shape or design, and all you need are pumpkins and carving tools. If you want to take a picture to update your Instagram, the pumpkins can help capture the perfect Halloween spirit. If you are not into carving and cleaning a pumpkin, you can paint cute designs on them instead and still have that classic Halloween experience.

Watch Scary Movies

Invite all your friends over, get tons of movie snacks, and wear your cutest pajamas, and you will have yourself a movie-watch party. You can watch all of the classic horror movies and enjoy a night in with your friends. Popcorn, M&Ms, KitKats, and Red Vines mixed with “Scream” (with Drew Barrymore) and “The Shinning,” ensures that you will have a great time. Emma Fredman ’23 says, “Scream is my favorite Halloween/horror movie because it is funny and Drew Barrymore is in it (and she is one of my favorite actors). I also like that era of movies.” If scary movies are not for you, “Hocus Pocus” and “Halloweentown” are great movies too!

Decorate Halloween Cookies

This may seem stupid, but every year I have a cookie decorating contest, and it always ends up being so much fun. You can decorate ghosts, pumpkins, or anything your heart desires. Baking them is just as much fun as decorating them. You can get pre-baked cookies from Target, or you can take on a challenge and try to make them yourself. Kendall Clarida ’23 says, “Baking is great, friendly competition, and I will definitely have my own contest this spooky season!” While you bake, up the fall spirit to the max by listening to some classic Halloween music.

 Costume Party

Want to take on a challenge? Host a costume party and invite tons of people. You can get a DJ or just make a playlist filled with fun Halloween/dance songs. You can make cute Halloween-inspired food and go all out on the decorating: spider webs and skeletons everywhere! To take the night to the next level, have a costume contest and give the winner a small prize. Everyone will go all out for costumes, which makes the party ten times more fun and results in fun pictures. Emma Silva ‘23 says, “I love costume parties so so much. When people do not show up in costumes, I assume they are not fun.”

I hope you take our suggestions and try out something new this year. Go all out with your costumes, and really embrace the Halloween spirit. No matter what you end up doing this Halloween, stay safe and have fun!
