Picture freshman me on my first day of high school, knees wobbling, terrified of absolutely everything. I wandered from class to class in the hopes that I’d end up in the right room, wondering how I’d get through an entire four years with all this newness. I needed something, anything comforting to ease my nerves as the class periods passed, but what could this be? And then I saw it. A super cool senior wearing khaki shorts, a Harvard crewneck, and a white polo strutted by with a pinkish-red smoothie in her hand. I decided I would be exactly like her.

I approached the then-new food service’s window and asked for a strawberry smoothie, where I was greeted by three people with big smiles that made my nerves vanish instantly. For the next three years, I would see those smiles again and again as I went back for countless smoothies and grilled cheeses, except now I’m the senior toting sweet beverages down the halls in my khaki shorts and college crewneck.

I’ve formed a friendship with the Bevaris staff operating the well-oiled machine that is the Rosary food service, though I’ve never had the chance to ask them all the questions that run through my head while I’m waiting in line for my lunch. That lack of knowledge ends today for me and you, as I’ve cracked open a nice can of questions for Patty, Guadalupe, and Lupillo to answer.

Oh, the snacks you’ll buy when you have an extra few dollars and forgot to eat breakfast. (Photo Credit: Anna Jordan)

What is your favorite food to make or serve?

Patty:

Everything! I work the fryer, so I like the foods like chicken tenders and fries, but I also like to put together salads and fruit salads.

Lupillo:

I work the grill, so I like to make the quesadillas and the burgers.

Guadalupe:

Definitely all of the Mexican foods!

I wonder if this coffee machine knows how many sugar/caffeine rushes it has caused.

If you were buying from the food service, what food or snack would you get? Which food always catches your eye?
Patty:

I think the tortas! They look so good while I make them, and they always turn out delicious!

Lupillo:

The Mexican food! The burritos, the quesadillas— I think I would get those.

Guadalupe:

Well, I’ve made you (as in me, Anna Jordan, lover of grilled cheeses) so many grilled cheeses, I think I would buy one of those!

What is your favorite part about working at Rosary?
Patty:

Everything! We love seeing all of the girls and getting to help all of the students every day. You’re all so sweet, and when we’re here, it feels like home!

Guadalupe:

The moment we’re at Rosary, we feel so comfortable. All of the girls make us feel at home, and we love to see them throughout the day!

Don’t I look like I belong? Maybe the Bevaris trio could be a quartet…

The Bevaris trio is a highly efficient group of kind people who do an excellent job of keeping Rosary running through the school days, whether it’s with a smile or a smoothie. I’m certainly not the only Royal to appreciate these three master chefs: Charlotte Jordan ’23 said, “They’re the nicest people you’ll ever meet, and not to mention, they also serve great food.”

They are as much of a delight as the food they serve. Next time you order, make sure to say hello to Patty, Guadalupe, and Lupillo if you’re ever fighting tooth and nail for one of those fantastic cookies that always seem to run out so quickly.
