The time has finally come, and track CIF finals are this upcoming weekend, May 16. Many girls from Rosary competed at CIF prelims in multiple events, doing well across the board. The events that qualified in CIF finals will be racing this weekend at Moorpark High School. In addition to the sprinting events that qualified the track team’s newly added 4x800m event also advanced to the finals. While racing at CIF prelims the four runners finished with a total time of 10:19, which is a 12 second PR from their previous races!
Runners Anaya Hughes ’27, Maye Zarate ’27, Emi Cantos ’28 and Mia Gamba ’28 are running the 4x800m event for the first time in Rosary history, and they are crushing it! Over the past few weeks these girls have been working hard at practice to run this newer track and field event. From practicing hand-offs to learning their splits, they have already made huge improvements together. The pair of juniors, Maye and Anaya, recently transferred from Cerritos High School this year and have already helped the team advance tremendously. Although it is only the sophomores’ second year running track, they have proved how hard work and determination can truly pay off.

It was Maye’s first year at Rosary; though she didn’t get to race for the first few months of the season due to CIF transfer rules, she shares, “Being able to run CIF finals is something that I know me and my teammates have worked very hard for. I’m proud of all of us for making it past prelims. It was a really fun experience of us all cheering each other on and seeing how strong we are as a team when we all work together.” The teamwork and persistence in these girls are exemplified through their progress this season.
Though she was recently injured, Emi has been getting back into the swing of things and racing well in her added event. She shares, “I’m so excited to carry on the track season into CIF and I’m super excited to be on a team with so many of my amazing friends and teammates. With this being my first experience, I’m so happy that they’re by my side and that we are going through this relay experience together.”
Mia has had an amazing season this year: she has PR’d and continues to make big improvements in her events. When reflecting, she explains, “This season has been a great experience, through all the practices and meets I have learned how to be the best version of myself out on the track. I’m so grateful to my coaches and teammates for pushing me to do my best because without all the support from the team we wouldn’t be running at CIF finals!”
In addition to the 4x800m, many of Rosary’s sprinting events will be competing at CIF finals. Recently, the 4x100m relay set a national record, and they are looking forward to keeping their good streak going. Jada Faison and Amaya Faison ’26 also qualified for multiple field events and they will be competing alongside the sprinters who qualified. You can support the team by following their events online.
