Welcome back from Red & Gold weekend, Royals. Hopefully, everybody had a blast this past weekend and is now caught up on sleep. Though the Red & Gold season will be missed, the Royals are ready to get back to the Red’s schedule, which means everyone will get out of school at 2:05 p.m.
For the past couple of weeks during Red & Gold season, we’ve had a FLEX schedule every day. The FLEX schedule at Rosary means we start school at 7:55 a.m. every day and dismissal is at 2:55 p.m., which gives the students 45 minutes to prep for the performance weekend of Red & Gold. Now that Red & Gold is officially over, Rosary is bringing back Tuesday’s late start and the beloved 2:05 dismissal. As much as the Rosary community loves Red & Gold, students couldn’t be happier to sleep in and get out of school an hour earlier.
Junior Alina Valencia shares her thoughts on the schedule change: “After six weeks of 2:55 dismissal, I am truly excited for 2:05 dismissal, especially after the time change and how it feels like we are getting out at 1:05. I recently got my driver’s license, so I would definitely be driving to Target and going shopping! I am also very ecstatic for an extra hour of sleep as well!” It’s so exciting that Alina got her driver’s license, and all her upcoming plans sound amazing. Many would agree that having that extra hour of sleep and a 2:05 p.m. dismissal sounds amazing.

Students will discover they will have more time catching up on school and other activities. Vanessa Ramos ’26 also agrees with loving Red & Gold season but missed the 2:05 dismissal. She exclaimed, “While Red & Gold season is my favorite time of the year, getting out early and having that extra time after school is a blessing. It gives me extra time to focus on my homework and to have more time to decompress after school. I truly forgot how much I appreciate it.” Many would agree with Vanessa that students receiving an extra hour for homework benefits them in so many ways. Emma Lugo ’28 was counting down the days for the 2:05 p.m. dismissal. She said, “I appreciate the 2:05 dismissal so much! I can’t wait to have more time to take a nap after school. I missed my afternoon naps, so I can’t wait to continue my afternoon plans!” A nap after school is so rewarding. Emma continued and said, “Naps are the best!”
Senior Vanessa Malagon also said that the extra hour will give her more time to do other things. She exclaimed, “I missed the 2:05 dismissal time for various reasons. With the earlier dismissal, I will be able to volunteer for an extra hour during the week. I will also be able to get home sooner because practice will be moved to an earlier time. Therefore, I can get my homework done sooner and get more sleep each night.”
While we will miss the red and gold colors throughout campus and the music being played, we appreciate the shorter school days and the extra hour to catch up on anything a student or staff member needs to do. What will be your extra hour plans?
