This Tuesday, March 3, the Royals had their annual Red & Gold potluck combined with a Reconciliation service. The teams switched off, with the Red team having lunch first while the Gold team was at Reconciliation, and then the teams switched. The Royals stacked their plates with various foods and desserts and also got to confess their sins and spend time with God during Reconciliation.
The Royals from both teams came together to make this great, well-organized potluck. Dance and drill brought the main courses, such as pizzas and sandwiches. Choral, props and script brought sides, including chips and salads. House managers, stage tech and drama brought a variety of beverages. Desserts like cookies, muffins and cupcakes were brought by media, publicity and historian captains. Lastly, fashion captains, producers and co-producers brought much-needed utensils. With these contributions from everybody, the feast began, and it was a fun one.
Many students found this to be a great addition to their busy weeks to have some fun. Reese Rubly ’27 shared, “I really enjoyed the Red & Gold potluck and Reconciliation today! I am a historian, so I was in charge of bringing in dessert. I brought mini cinnamon rolls and mini blueberry crumble muffins. It was great to see both teams come together. I also really enjoyed the Reconciliation after because it is Lent, and it felt good to confess to the priest. I’m sure it did for everyone else as well. It was great and a fun addition to the week.”
Aside from eating a delicious lunch, the students got to attend Reconciliation and confess their sins to a priest. Fourteen priests were stationed all around the Karcher center, so everybody got the chance to go. The priests gave good advice to each student and guided them closer to God. This was a perfect opportunity for the Royals to be relieved of their sins, especially during Lent. There was also the opportunity to write a letter to God, telling Him your sins that way. This special opportunity created a stronger relationship with each student and God.

This was the Class of 2029’s first ever Red & Gold potluck. Freshman Morgan Simon shared her take on the potluck and Reconciliation: “The potluck was so fun. Getting to see everyone join in and bring something to all share was really nice. Confession was really good; we got to write a special card to God. After doing my penance, I already felt closer to God. The priest was very kind and explained things to help me grow closer to Him.”
With Red & Gold so soon, this was a great way to take a break from the hard work that goes into it and spend quality time with our teams and with God. This day ended with not only a huge amount of pizza boxes, but also an endless amount of love and faith. Congrats, Royals, on all the hard work you have put into these shows so far!
