Lace up your cleats, grab your goggles and pick up your stick because lacrosse season is officially here! First, let’s recap the season so far. After the Lax Town Rivals tournament, the lacrosse team played their opening home game on Feb. 18 against Lakewood. The lacrosse team crushed their first game, winning 15-2. Since then, the team has had four other games, including a 6-1 win at home against Woodrow Wilson.
Overall, the team has a variety of experience from girls who have played for almost 10 years to girls who are playing their very first season this year. Let’s hear from a few players about the current season!
First, Junior and Co-Captain Molly Hassett first joined lacrosse during her freshman year and has been playing ever since. So far, she believes that this year’s team has been doing well, and she is hopeful for the team’s future. Molly hopes “to play my best every game and help my teammates to play their best.” She also wants the team to get closer not only as players but as friends. As the season continues, Molly is looking forward to “the upcoming Rose Bowl Tournament, secret sister exchanges, senior night and every game that I get the chance to play the sport I love.” A fun moment from this season that Molly enjoyed the most was when girls sang karaoke on the ride back from a game, bonding with her teammates.
Next, Maddie Nero ’26, the second of three co-captains, has been playing lacrosse since she was nine years old, making this her ninth year playing and her fourth year playing for Rosary. Maddie explained some of her goals for this year, saying, “I would love to score more goals than last year, and I think we can make it to playoffs if we stay focused and committed.” Maddie is looking forward to seeing everyone grow as a player and a person on the field. She looks back fondly on the first home game this season: “My favorite memory on the Rosary Lax Team so far is our first game because everyone played great, and we all had fun winning at our home field.” That definitely was a great first game!

Like Molly, Lyla Garza ’27 is currently in her third year of lacrosse and agrees that the season is going well for the team. Lyla has some specific goals for the spring, sharing, “Some individual goals I have are playing more midfield and scoring five goals this season. Goals I have for the team are to win more games and make playoffs.” Lyla has loved the sense of community that she has found, especially after the team’s first game win.
Finally, Sophomore Cora Lev has three years of experience under her belt and also believes the season is going well. She is looking forward to revealing secret sisters. Cora wants to “get faster and build more stamina. As for our team goals, I hope to keep improving our teamwork and chemistry.” Cora’s favorite memory from this season was media day, especially a funny moment shared with her teammate Hailey Galvan ’28.
All in all, the lacrosse team is off to a good start with plenty of potential for the rest of the season. The team will be going to the Rose Bowl Tournament this Saturday, Feb. 7, playing three games in total. We wish them the best of luck and the tournament and for the rest of the season.
