Spring sports are in full swing, and Rosary Softball is doing just that. They are currently in the middle of their season, having started after winter break. As they play throughout spring, these Royals are ready for this softball season. Coached by Mr. Tice, Rosary’s Athletic Director, the softball program is a spring sport at Rosary Academy that has achieved notable success in recent years and remains a strong program today. Truth be told, softball was the first to win a CIF Championship in Rosary’s sports history. Rosary softball trains for hours and plays back-to-back games, while remaining a close-knit team throughout the season.
Just this last Tuesday, on March 3, Rosary defeated Cerritos, ending the game 10-2. We are very proud of our Royals giving it their all and accomplishing their goals. Hailey Huerta, who is a sophomore on the team, looks forward to the season: “I’m excited to be able to play softball with my friends and new teammates. We were super happy to get our first W this season against Cerritos.” Her sister, Hayden Huerta ’27, also gave her input on how the season is going for her and her teammates: “It has been a slow start this year, but we are having fun! It is going to be a rebuilding year, but I’m looking forward to seeing how the rest of the season goes!” We cannot wait to see how this season goes for Rosary softball. Throughout their season, Rosary will be playing schools all over Southern California and attending tournaments in late March.

Another sophomore, Alex Kontogouris, loves this team and expressed, “This is my second year on the team, and I love playing this sport with all of these girls. The environment, this program is something I am going to cherish and enjoy for my next three years and beyond. Our season just began, but I can already see so much growth in each individual person on the team. I can’t wait to make memories with this team as we continue this season and the rest of the seasons to come.” Many other teammates would agree with Alex and her love for the team.
Their next game is on Saturday, March 7, at Mission Viejo at 3 p.m. If you’re available, take a drive down to South County and enjoy a nice day watching your peers. Also, their next home game is next Thursday against Downey High School. These are games you are not going to want to miss.
