The track and field season is here! Starting the season off strong, Rosary Track had their first meet on Feb. 21 and they came out with a bang. The Eagle Invite, hosted by Santa Margarita Catholic High School, was taken over by the Rosary Royals. Some highlights included Justine Wilson ’26, Tra’via Flournoy ’28, GG Mitchell ’29 and Maliyah Collins ’28 racing the 4×100 relay and winning with a time of 46.23 and racing the 4×400 relay and winning with a time of 3:51.11. Additionally, 400m girls Maliyah and GG placed 2nd and 5th in their race. Justine and Tra’via placed 1st and 2nd in both the 100m and 200m sprints, respectively. The team is so excited to continue their season and continue to improve. Though they have just begun, the team is already focused on their goals for the season and how to achieve them.
The team is focused on their long-term goals for this season. Justine shares, “It’s my last year and I want to give it all that I can. My goals are to win Arcadia, Mount Sac, and State (three of the biggest meets).” These are great goals for a final season of Rosary track. Maliyah shares a similar goal, saying, “My goal for this season is to win state in the 4×100 and make it to the finals in at least one of my individual events, preferably the 200, and possibly win.” They both expressed that they plan to achieve their goals by staying focused, keeping a positive mindset at practice and meets and giving every race their all. Hopefully, both girls will be able to achieve their goals this year!

When focusing on a past season, Tra’via shares a special story, reflecting on overcoming challenges: “When an eagle gets old, its feathers become heavy and its beak becomes weak. To renew itself for another 30 years of life, the eagle flies to a mountaintop (Isaiah 9), plucks out its old feathers and knocks off its old beak against a rock. The eagle then waits for new ones to grow back during a painful 150-day period of isolation, just how God puts us in a waiting season that can be 150 days or 12 months. So, track has taught me that we must let go of the old to be renewed and be patient during the waiting season.” Though she has faced challenges, Tra’via is ready to push herself to do her best this season alongside her teammates. Just as we sometimes get stuck at points in our lives, it is important to push through. The track girls have been doing a great job of trying their best and pushing through injuries and hard practices to put their best foot forward.
On Wednesday, Feb. 25, track had their second race of the season at Los Alamitos. They raced wonderfully against Los Alamitos High School, keeping their spirits up and giving their best in each event that they raced. The track team has another race on Saturday, Feb. 28 at Trabuco Hills High School, so if you are able to make it, it would be wonderful to have more support for our Rosary sisters. The team is looking forward to improving their skills and becoming closer to their Rosary sisters as they continue to run.
