These past couple of weeks, the halls of Rosary have felt a little bare due to many girls leaving classes and lunch early to play CIF games. Three of our winter sports: soccer, basketball and water polo advanced to CIF playoffs. With these three teams continuing to play games after their technical seasons have ended, the school has been a buzz. Our girls have been working hard on the field, court and in the pool to represent Rosary Royals and carry their teams as far as they can.
Soccer was one of our leading teams this year, with seven league wins. They played hard on the field, always trying their best and working like a well-oiled machine to pump out win after win. Their first CIF game was on Feb. 12 against Thousand Oaks. A very far drive, but our girls made it worth it by winning! Only two days later, the soccer team continued their winning streak by giving up their Valentine’s Day to play against Great Oak. This game also resulted in another fantastic win with the final score being 2-0. Unfortunately, the girls recently lost their quarterfinal game on Feb. 18 against Westlake, which bumped them out of CIF.
Varsity soccer player and senior Bella Cantos shares about her experience this CIF season: “I think that we gave it our best and at the end of the day we are proud of the work that we put in.” Though their time in CIF has come to an end, we are so proud of our girls for advancing so far and giving it their all.

Another team that has been doing extraordinarily this season is Rosary basketball! They’ve been putting in all the effort they can to continue to win and play like beasts. Their first CIF game was on Feb. 12 against Trinity Classical Academy with a final score of 65-36. This team has been working tirelessly in practice and at games to put their best foot forward, and it shows! They continued this streak with two more wins on Feb. 14 against King and Feb. 18 against Dos Pueblos. Great job, ladies! They have another game coming up on Feb. 21 against Crescenta Valley at 7 p.m. If you are free, the team would love to have you come out and support them!
Basketball player Kaiya Watties ‘27 explains her experience these past few games: “CIF has been great; the team has come together really well, and we’ve all worked really hard.” Basketball has been doing a great job of working as a team to win. Kaiya also shares the same opinion, “As a team, we’ve been doing a lot to prepare, like practicing and scouting, which has really helped.” Good job, girls, keep up the good work and commitment!
Overall, the Rosary community is immensely proud of all the athletes who have been putting so much effort into these CIF games. Thank you to everyone who has been out to support the soccer, basketball and water polo teams these past weeks. Good luck to basketball as they continue this season!
