Hi Royals! Are you excited for your first Red & Gold competition? It is a sock drive from Monday, Feb. 9, and runs through Monday, Feb. 23. You can order them on Amazon and have them at your front door the next day or find them in your local Target. By donating socks, you are getting points for your team and living out our charism of “serving the dear neighbor without distinction.” If you don’t donate socks now, you will never be able to say you contributed to your team’s sock drive!
Sophomore Ally Luciano shares, “I am so excited for our first chance to compete against each other. Not only are we getting Red & Gold points, but we are also getting to help the less fortunate.” That is a good point, Ally. These small competitions for the greater good; get everyone ready to compete.
Mr. Chavez adds, “For the unhoused, socks are a high-demand, low-supply item. People who donate goods to shelters often aren’t thinking that socks could be of use. While we don’t think much about it, clean socks prevent severe health issues in the unhoused population. Chronic foot conditions, injuries, infections, even health concerns like diabetes can be complicated by a lack of socks. We have an opportunity to be a tremendous help to this population if we donate clean socks and give them an immediate improvement to their health, hygiene and dignity.”
Ms. Waldman has strong opinions about the sock drive; she explained, “I love Red & Gold; I watch it every year. I am very glad throughout this season; the girls also get to donate to a good cause.”

Please make sure to buy socks for your team; not only are you helping your team inch closer to victory, but you are also serving the homeless. These next few months are on the colder side, so being able to provide at least one person with extra warmth is worth the trip to the store. Go Red & Gold!
