Excited chaos has filled the halls of Rosary as the school has been split between Red Team and Gold Team. Between the excitement of kickoff, meeting captains and finding friends on your team, it’s easy to forget the faith part of your day. So, to bring a faithful aspect to Red & Gold, Rosary hosted a Mass on Feb 2. At the end of Mass, the school prayed a special prayer to bless their Red & Gold experience.
While it might be difficult for many girls to part with their best friends during Flex hours, it has been especially difficult for senior producers Parker Yee (Red) and Michaela Watson (Gold) not to talk about their shows. Parker shares about her experience with the Red & Gold Mass: “I think the Red & Gold Mass helps to launch us into the Red & Gold season and remind us that we are all one together through this season.” Even though girls may be on different teams, it doesn’t mean you should shut each other out.
The Mass shows how we can still come together as a school to partake in our faith amid the Red & Gold madness. Parker also shares, “Michaela, the Gold Producer, is one of my closest friends, and I couldn’t imagine anyone else to go through this season with. We have been on the same team every year, so not being able to talk to her about it has been hard, but I know she is creating a great show.” The Mass was a beautiful way to begin the Red & Gold season because it reminded Rosary of exactly what Parker is saying.
The Mass was celebrated by Father Bill, who delivered an exceptional homily about the importance of standing together and being a community. Michaela shares why she thinks we have a Mass to kick off the Red & Gold season and how the homily relates to everyday Rosary life: “I think we have a Red & Gold Mass, because it helps connect the entire student body on a spiritual level. It gives us time to give any worries, doubts, and anxieties to God and ask Him to watch over us during this time.” For many girls, Mass is a great time to offer up their intentions to God. It calms the nerves of girls who fear performing and gives a sense of warmth and comfort over the big production.

This time of the year is also a very busy time for girls between sports, theater, homework and preparation for Red & Gold. There is always something to do. Michaela provides an amazing view on how that Mass reflects those needs, “The Mass gives me time to reflect and center myself before the busy Red & Gold season ahead. It gives me time to ask God to calm my mind, keep both teams safe, and help me bring my passions forward in a positive light. The Mass reassures me that everything is in God’s hands and at the end of the day, Red & Gold is supposed to be fun!” First-time captain Ally Luciano ’28 shares a similar perspective: “It’s my first year being a captain, so the Red & Gold Mass helped me calm my nerves after kickoff.” A silent prayer can always come in handy when you’re feeling overwhelmed!
Sophomore Gisele Mota shares how the Mass impacted her view on the competitive side of Red & Gold, “My time during the Mass reminded me that Red & Gold is not only about winning but creating bonds with others and not prioritizing winning.” Yes, Red & Gold is a great time to create new friendships and meet new girls. As Father Bill explained in the homily, this is a great time to come together as a community and lift each other up!
A big thank you has been extended to Father Bill and the captains this Red & Gold season. The mass was a great way to center ourselves before jumping into the excitement of Rosary’s favorite time of the year. As we continue to prepare for the show, Rosary asks for prayers of safety and protection this season.
