This Monday, Nov. 10, was the start of our Thanksgiving canned food drive. It will end next Friday, Nov. 21. Our Royals have been going to different stores around Orange County to buy canned food. This year, there is a dire need for food due to the government shutdown. If you donate a minimum of 5 food items and get your name crossed off the list in room 9, you will get a free sweats day!
Our Executive Director of Campus Ministry, Eileen Kearns ‘78, expresses the importance of the food drive: “We are called to ‘feed the hungry, give drink to the thirsty, clothe the naked’ – part of the Beatitudes (Matthew 25: 35-40) – we are the ‘hands and feet of Christ!’ So many people will go hungry this holiday season; the need for food is very high right now. Let us live out our charism by ‘serving the dear neighbor without distinction.’ We all need to help fill the plates of the hungry and donate some non-perishable food TODAY!” Jesus has called us to be servant leaders and to give back to our community. This food drive is an amazing opportunity to do just that.

Senior Melina Gonzalez has some insight on where to buy the best canned goods: “I usually like to buy my canned goods from Trader Joe’s! I think they have so many great options for a great price. I am so excited for the canned food drive. Especially this year, there are so many people in need, and the food we donate will be a big help for many families.” I agree, Trader Joe’s is definitely my favorite place to buy canned foods.
Do not forget to donate and live out your charism by serving your dear neighbor! Plus, you get the amazing incentive of wearing sweats to school. There’s really no excuse to opt out of this service project.
