The entire Rosary student body uses the same laptops with the same stylus pens. Thankfully, when these electronics malfunction, the Royals have someone to go to. They go to Mr. Karcher’s office, tell him their problem and he fixes it. Nobody understands his methods, but he fixes them nonetheless. Whether it is as simple as getting a new stylus tip or restarting an entire computer, he accepts the challenge.
Whenever students have a technical issue, they know where to go. Emilia Cantos ’28 shared an experience she had when she needed Mr. Karcher’s help, “On the day of the PSAT testing, I forgot to download the Bluebook app ahead of time, but the problem was easily fixed when I went to IT and Mr. Karcher quickly and easily downloaded the app without a problem. He works to ensure that everyone at this school has the best possible access to our laptops.” It sounds like a stressful experience turned into a peaceful one.

Mr. Karcher took the time to share the main work that he does regarding the Rosary mechanics: “Other than data protection and network security, our primary purpose in IT is to ensure that all data systems remain fully operational — including Wi-Fi and the backend infrastructure that supports internet access. This also involves maintaining and repairing all PCs, laptops, tablets, servers and TVs — essentially, everything required to keep learning uninterrupted and data flowing smoothly.” The Royals would have a hard time keeping their laptops in good shape without Mr. Karcher’s assistance.
All Rosary Academy students and teachers would agree that their frustration towards their laptops goes away once they get Mr. Karcher’s help. No need to repeatedly press buttons or bang your styluses on the table when you have Mr. Karcher. Once he knows the issue, it’s almost like he presses a magic button, and the problem goes away. I am personally very bad with technology, so I go to IT a lot. One time my entire laptop wasn’t loading, so I went to Mr. Karcher’s office and it was fixed in a second. Someone needs to look into his methods because it seems like magic to me.
In all, Mr. Karcher is the guy to go to when you have any technical problems. He is always ready to accept the challenge with a smile. His “magic touch” is marvelous to see, and it leaves students wondering how he did it. The Technology Department is open from 7:30-3:30 every day, so students have access to it all day long. The Royals are grateful for Mr. Karcher and all that he does for us.
