Did you know that killer whales are a part of the dolphin family? Well, on Tuesday Oct. 29, the Oceanography and APES classes participated in a special field trip where they learned all about the ocean and ocean animals. They went to the Aquarium of the Pacific and even got to take part in a whale watching adventure. Accompanied by teachers from Rosary, the girls made memories and learned facts they will never forget!
A senior from the Oceanography class, Kristin Ruiz, shares her experience: “I loved the field trip because we got to go out in the open ocean and whale watch!” What a great experience the girls were able to share with their friends from Rosary! Along with that, Kristin shares her favorite thing she learned on the trip saying, “Something I learned was that sea otter have the toughest fur out of any animal.” It’s safe to say the APES and Oceanography classes seem to have learned many fun facts about ocean animals on their trip.

Another fact learned was that jellyfish don’t have a brain or eyes. Harper Clark ’26 says that she has a found a love for jellyfish after touching one at the aquarium. She excitedly shared, “I ‘ve found my calling and would love to go on a world tour of touching jelly fish.” A common theme among the students was a love for the jellyfish exhibit and getting to touch the silky animals that have lived on earth for around 500 million years.
Emma Muse, another senior from the Oceanography class shared her take on the academic trip: “This field trip helped me understand my class better because it gave me real examples about how our actions effect the ocean.” It is so important to keep our oceans clean so that we can protect all of the amazing animals like sea otters and jellyfish. You don’t want your trash to end up in the ocean, so do your part and throw it away in the trash can. Emma also observed that “seeing all of these different creatures it gave us all the opportunity to understand a little bit more about our oceans that we talk about all the time in class.”
Rosary students were so grateful to participate on this trip and experience the ocean wildlife. They made memories and got to learn about the ocean with real ocean creatures. This opportunity is one they won’t soon forget. Remember to do as you “otter” and keep the oceans clean!
