Rosary is excited to say that Michaela Watson ‘26 is the new Miss Yorba Linda Teen. On Feb. 1, Michaela Watson won the Miss Yorba Linda Teen pageant at Valencia High School. She has been practicing non-stop to perfect her statements during the performance. Her hard work and dedication truly paid off. She will now represent Yorba Linda in the Miss California pageant. Let’s listen to what Michaela has to say about the actual competition and how she practiced to become Miss Yorba Linda Teen.
Q: What was it like to be in a pageant?
A: Being in the Miss PYLCH pageant was amazing. I’ve been working towards it for really long and have put in a lot of hard work. Most people think pageants are only about how a girl looks, but it’s so much more than that. It has been an amazing experience!
Q: What did you do to prepare to compete?
A: I’ve been going to rehearsal and mock interviews since September. We practiced our dance numbers and practiced for all the phases of the competition: In-person Interview, On-stage Question, Health & Fitness, Talent and Evening Gown. I also practiced a lot at home, having my family ask me questions and performing my talent for them as well. The nights were long, but the outcome was so worth it!
Q: What was the schedule like during the competition?
A: The night before the pageant, we had a six-and-a-half-hour dress rehearsal…I know. Then the day of the competition I started my morning early with an interview with the judges at 9:15 for scoring. Then I had plenty of time to rest and get my things together back home. I went to my hair and makeup appointment and then was off to the theater by four. Once I got to the theatre, we practiced our dance numbers for a little while and then it was time for the competition to begin.
Q: If someone was interested in doing the same thing, what would you tell them?
A: I would 100% tell anyone who is interested in competing in a pageant to do it. My mom was Miss Placentia when she was younger and never stops talking about all the amazing things she did and people she met, and I am so excited for that to be me too! The experience of preparing has taught me so many life lessons that will help me with my future and now being a titleholder, I’ll gain so many connections. So yes, if you are thinking of competing, please do! Hope to see you at Miss California!!
For her talent that she showcased at the pageant, she wanted to show her love for science. Michaela did the elephant toothpaste experiment. We have all at least done this experiment at least once in our lifetime. So, she decided to spice it up by adding fun colors to the elephant toothpaste.
I was able to interview one of Michaela Watson’s favorite teachers, Mrs. Hunt, and she was very excited about Michaela’s accomplishment. She mentioned, “I am so proud of Michaela! She works so hard and is so deserving of this win. I am really excited that she went with a Science theme! It was so fun experimenting with her and developing the right reaction together. I was so proud to help.” Mrs. Hunt also wanted to leave a little message for her: “Michaela, you are such a wonderful, kind and confident young lady and you deserve this win! I cannot wait to see all the things you will do with your future! Cosmetic Chemistry, or whatever field you wind up choosing in life, will be so lucky to have your brain and expertise drive the future of that field!”

Michaela Watson, the whole Rosary student body and faculty are very proud of you and can’t wait to see what you do with this title. We know you will make a big difference in the community this year. Congratulations and good luck with the next possible pageant: Miss California!
