Which team are you?

It’s officially fall, which means it’s “Gilmore Girls” season! Everyone who has watched the show has their favorite character, whether it’s Rory, Luke, Lorelai, etc. And we all know who our favorite couple is. Some might say they loved Dean; others may say Jess or Logan. Throughout the seven seasons of “Gilmore Girls,” each boyfriend has significantly impacted Rory’s life. I asked Royals which team they were, so, grab your sweaters, pumpkin spice lattes and blankets while we settle the debate: Team Dean, Jess or Logan?

Team Dean: Dean Forrester was Rory’s first boyfriend. Sophomore Jane Ferreira ’27, loves Dean and thinks he was the best for Rory. In her words, she says, “Dean is the best boyfriend because, at his peak in seasons 1 and 2, he accepted Rory for who she was, made a relationship with her mom and never created drama when he was with Rory; plus, he’s the best-looking!” Some Royals who also agreed with her were Nattie Valdovinos ’27, Bella Contreras ’25, Maile Hankins ’27 and Ilianna Gutierrez ’27.

Team Jess: Jess Mariano was personally, my favorite. I loved the era of Rory and Jess. I fell in love with the couple and always thought they were endgame. I was sad when Jess and Rory broke up. I loved how Jess always believed in Rory and supported her in wanting to go to Harvard. He shared some of the same interests with Rory like reading and writing. Some of my fellow Royals agreed with me! Including: Malia Sims ’25, Belen Santiago ’26, Leanna Garcia ’27, Alayna Votino ’26, MaryJane Simmions ’27, Itzel Guzman ’25, Emma Muse ’26, Chloe Ryan ’27 and Jamie Miyashiro ’27.

Team Logan: Logan Huntzberger was the last boyfriend Rory had in the show. Freshman Scarlett Rodriguez thought Logan was her best boyfriend: “I firmly believe that Logan was the best for Rory. I think this because he was always ready to marry her, and Logan would always put up with all of her decisions even if Logan didn’t agree with them. Overall, Logan always cared and loved Rory. Thats what made him the best!”

Tristan Dugray was a love interest for Rory, but they never really dated. Senior Marissa Valencia, ’25, states, “Tristan wasn’t technically one of Rory’s boyfriends but we applaud him with his efforts… Yeah, actually, no he was never nice to Rory, and he was a jerk to everyone! I do believe with some character development (a lot) he would have been nicer and better for Rory, who knows?” Some Royals had a soft spot for Tristan and would have liked to see him with Rory: Diana Penaloza ’26, Abby Smith ’27, Alexis Perez ’27, Grecia Garcia ’27 and Julissa Gallegos ’27.

We can all agree that each of Rory’s boyfriends had their strengths and flaws. Each of them impacted Rory’s life either during high school or college and helped shape her as a person, but out of the Royals who were asked this question, it was concluded that most Royals are team Jess Mariano!
