The Rosary Soccer team is currently undefeated in the start of their pre-season. This past Saturday was their Senior Night. With 26 players on the varsity team, the nine seniors are huge contributors. Let’s take a closer look at this special class.
Senior Sherry Diep has been on the varsity team for all four years of high school. Sherry is a key part of the team as a center forward. Sherry has awesome footwork on the ball and is one of the hardest working players on the team. She is committed to University of New Mexico’s D1 soccer team and will be furthering her athletic career and academic studies there. Sherry says, “Rosary soccer has been one of my favorite parts of Rosary for the last four years. I love the girls on the team and the friendships I have made over the years. I am super excited to see what this upcoming season brings and I hope that it is the best one yet!”
Senior Briana Reyes has been on Rosary’s varsity soccer team for all four years of high school. She is a defensive mid and has been playing soccer since she was five. She says, “My favorite part of Rosary Soccer is our pregame activities. I love walking onto the field with my teammates and runway. I am so excited for the season, especially now that we’ve started off so strong.” Briana is not sure where she is going to college yet, but she is hoping to get into Texas Christian University.
Senior Julia Watson has been on varsity since her freshman year at Rosary. She has been a crucial part of the team as she has been a utility player over the years. Julia has played both defensive and attacking positions throughout the last four years and is a very hard worker. She is committed to play soccer and further her academic studies at University of the Incarnate Word in Texas!
Senior Ava Bernard has also been on varsity since her freshman year. She has been playing soccer since she was around five or six years old. Ava is a crafty left back with an amazing left foot. Her strength is whipping crosses in and getting into the attack even as a defensive player. While Ava is not sure where she will be attending college yet, her dream is to attend TCU.
Senior Leah Gimenez has been on the varsity soccer team throughout her four years of high school at Rosary. Leah is the captain of the team and has been a key offensive player. She is super speedy and is great at taking players on in the attack. Leah shares, “I love being a part of the Rosary Soccer team. I love how much fun the team has on and off the field together. I am so excited for the season to start and I’m super proud of the team for our results so far in preseason.” She is committed to play D1 soccer and further her academics at Cal State University of Bakersfield!
Senior Keira Lambert has been on Rosary’s Varsity Soccer team since her Junior Year. She has been playing soccer since she was four years old. Keira plays as a midfielder and her favorite memory is the Arizona trip with the team and ice baths. She isn’t sure where she wants to go to college yet.
Senior McKinley Fregoso has been on varsity throughout her four years of high school. She is a left footed center forward. McKinley loves to take players on and she has a great shot. She’s been playing soccer since she was four years old. McKinley is not sure where she will be attending college yet.
Senior Gabriella Thompson is a new Rosary varsity soccer addition this year. She has been playing soccer since she was three years old. Even though Gabriella suffered an ACL injury a few years ago, she has been very dedicated in trying to get back on the field. She will most likely further her education at Georgia Tech or the University of Alabama.
Senior Madison Encinas is a four year Rosary soccer varsity member. She is a great left footed center back. She is captain and has been a very strong center back the last four years always protecting the goal from opposing teams. Madison Encinas is committed to play D1 soccer at Baylor University and will continue her academic studies there!
The Rosary Soccer team is super excited to have so many talented seniors on the team. So far their record is four wins and one tie. Their preseason ends after their Arizona Showcase from Dec. 26-30th, and their first league game is on Jan. 4th vs. Santa Margarita at home (Fullerton College). Go Royals!
