August – the month dreaded by all. With August comes heat waves, tee-shirt tan lines, melted ice cream, sunburns, and worst of all: the end of summer. But August doesn’t just mean back-to-school for current Rosary Royals, but also for some of the recently graduated alumnae. Now we watch as the class of 2023 frantically pack their entire closets and far-too-many stuffed animals to make the big transition into life as college freshmen. To hear firsthand on how this moving-in process is going, let’s go to some of Rosary’s favorite alumnae to hear about their experiences adapting to their new homes.
A proud Trojan Anna Jordan ‘23 moved into the University of Southern California (USC) early morning Aug. 12. Notorious for her amazing Red and Gold Scripts and “Ocean’s 11” themed AP Lang Essays, it’s not a shock that Anna is majoring in creative writing and continuing to chase her passion. When asked about her classes, Anna shared: “I’m so excited to take so many classes about things I love! It’s like AP Lit with Mr. Bevins and Journalism with Ms. Barclay for every class!”
Moving on down to the South, beloved Brynn Beauchamp ‘23 cannot contain her excitement for her freshman year at the University of Alabama. And one of the biggest ways Brynn channeled this excitement was through her dorm room, which fits her so perfectly and looks like something out of an aesthetic college magazine! After showing pictures, Brynn admitted: “I love my whole dorm. Picking out every detail from the rug on the floor to the pictures on the cork board was so special.”
Finally, I was able to follow my older sister, Madison Hayward ‘23, as she moved into LMU on Aug. 23. Madison, having planned out every detail of her move-in process on the car-ride over, conquered her dorm within an hour, giving plenty of time for her family to explore the campus and enjoy a final meal together. What she didn’t plan for, however, was the fire alarm surprise that went off in the cafeteria. Still bitter over her food getting cold, Madison remembers this occurrence vividly: “We were forced to evacuate the building along with all the staff and confused freshmen. We did end up getting our food back, though, after waiting for 15 minutes in the ‘safe grass area,’ so everything turned out fine.”
At the end of the day, I’m so excited to follow my Rosary alumnae sisters as they begin their college and move-in journeys. They’ve all done such great things at Rosary, and I know that they’ll continue on to do even better things in college, no matter how many English essays or fire alarms stand in their way.
