On Wednesday, Oct. 14, Rosary celebrated our founders with a special CSJ Founders’ Mass. This Mass was held in the Karcher Center and recognized the Sisters of Saint Joseph and their founding of Rosary. This special Mass was said by Fr. Ian and hosted by campus ministry, who did a great job of setting up the Karcher Center with candles, plants and a statue of Mary. Additionally Mrs. Vasquez ’17 sang beautiful hymns during the service.
For the celebration, Sister Karin from the Sisters of Saint Joseph spoke during the homily, giving a history of the sisters’ journey to becoming who they are today. Their congregation began around the year 1650 in Le Puy, France. In 2022, they celebrated 100 years in Orange. Over their time here, they have helped to establish schools, churches and hospitals in the Orange County area. What a journey!
Sophomore Camila Flores De la Torre shared her view on the Mass: “It was very inspirational to hear about the founders of Rosary. I also liked how she talked about sisterhood because it felt very relatable to the Rosary environment.” This is true! The sisterhood of the Sisters of Saint Joseph definitely had an impact on the sisterhood at Rosary.

When asked about the Mass, Campus Minister Emma Celio ’28 explained, “During the Mass it was so interesting to learn the origin of the foundation. As a Rosary Academy student, I believe it’s important to know where we come from as a school and this was the perfect opportunity.” I couldn’t agree more, Emma. The sisters have truly done so much for our school and it’s important for Rosary students to recognize that.
Every day, Rosary Royals live out the faith journey that the Sisters of Saint Joseph began when they founded our school. From serving the dear neighbor without distinction to praying the rosary and singing during Mass, we couldn’t be more grateful to the sisters for our beautiful school. Thank you to the Sisters of Saint Joseph!
