It is officially time for our Royals’ favorite dance of the year: the Father Daughter dance! Every year our Royals and their dads bust out their best dance moves in a class-wide competition to see who could go pro, and who wins (spoiler alert: it’s none of us, but if it was a competition for who can flail their arms the most, we would all be going pro).
This dance could not happen without our amazing social chairs—and fathers. Melina Gonzalez ’26 has been working so hard to make this weekend perfect: “I am so excited to be working with Siena Ruszak ’26 as this year’s Social Chairs! One of our main responsibilities is planning the Father-Daughter Dance, and we have put so much time and effort into making it special. Our theme this year is ‘Disco, Divas and Dads.’ We are currently working on gathering donations for our raffle baskets and coming up with ideas for table settings and decorations. We can’t wait to see everything come together and we hope everyone has an amazing time at the dance!” I am so excited to see what Melina and Siena have been working so hard on.

Next, I talked to Addi Gutierrez ’26 to get her insight, considering that it is her last year: “Every year, my dad gets injured right before the dance, and he can’t dance much. I honestly think he is just looking for a way out of it. I have high hopes for this year, but he and my mom are going to a concert for their anniversary the day before, so hopefully he comes back in one piece.” Well, hopefully, this year she has a little more luck! I make my dad start practicing a few days before, so maybe our dads can facetime while practicing.
To end on a good note, Lexie Curtis ’27 looks forward to this dance every year: “My dad and I love the father-daughter dance so much! We get to break out our best dance moves and impress the crowd. Although, the best part would arguably have to be the Shirley Temples!” I also love the Shirley Temples and am very jealous that you have one more year and this is my last.
This dance often leaves our Royals sweaty, slightly injured and probably in tears. I know I will be bawling my eyes out, because it will be my last Father Daughter dance. Last year, my dad and I won after three years of crying due to not making it to the finals. So, if it is your first year at Father Daughter, make the most of it and start practicing!
