Standardized testing for freshmen, sophomores and juniors is this Thursday, Oct. 9, at 7:45 a.m. Seniors will have the day off.
Freshmen will take the pre-ACT while the other two grade levels will take the PSAT. Standardized testing is mandatory, and students are required to arrive at school in their regular uniform 10 minutes earlier than the regular start time, at 7:45 a.m.
The Royal Review reminds students that arriving on time is very important: “If students arrive after the test has begun, they will not be allowed to take the test and will be sent home. The anticipated release time is 11:45 a.m.” It is also imperative that students download the Bluebook app onto their computers prior to testing.

In addition to their fully charged laptops, students must bring No.2 pencils and can bring an approved calculator if they wish; however, a calculator is optional as it is built into the online test. They should also bring snacks and water for during breaks. Students do not need any other school materials.
Academic counselor Mrs. Sanchez outlines why standardized testing is important: “Standardized testing is important because it ultimately helps prepare students for the real SAT; in addition, there are scholarship opportunities tied to the PSAT, and it is good practice because taking the SAT or ACT will help with college applications. For juniors, the PSAT/NMSQT offers the National Merit Scholarship.” As Mrs. Sanchez says, juniors should especially focus on their test-taking skills, since they have the opportunity to earn a scholarship.
Students can find their room assignments posted on the LEC windows. Happy testing, Royals!
