Homecoming is right around the corner, so as the time gets closer, if you haven’t already bought a dress yet, keep these points in mind! Every year, the dress code remains mostly the same, but there may be a few changes to watch for. The newest change in the past few years has been the shift from short to long dresses. Although it may be harder to find a long dress during homecoming season, there are still plenty of options that will look great.
First, if you haven’t purchased your homecoming ticket, be sure to check out the HOCO happenings article for more details on prices and purchasing information. Now, before you shop for a dress, Mrs. Burboa brings up some points to keep in mind while shopping:
- “Dresses/skirts must be ‘midi’ length, hitting the middle of the shin or longer
- Jumpsuits are allowed, but must follow the same guidelines as dresses
- No backless, no bare midriffs, low cut on the sides, back or chest
- No slits, cut-outs, or transparent fabrics
- No undergarments of any kind may show at any point
- Two-piece dresses are acceptable ONLY IF the two pieces come together so no skin is showing at any time
- Flip flops, slides or bare feet are not allowed.”
All of these guidelines Mrs. Burboa outlines are to ensure “students are asked to dress modestly and appropriately, in accordance with our Catholic values.”

Since last year was the first time we were wearing long dresses for homecoming instead of shopping in person, I found my dress on American Threads. Dress shopping can become overwhelming when there are so many sites and places to shop at. Some websites I have found to be quick and have many dresses to choose from are Beginning Boutique, PepperMayo, American Threads, Hello Molly, Macy’s, Anthropologie and Princess Polly. Tatyana Maldonado ’27 says, “Last year it took me a long time to find my dress because I was looking at a few different stores, but I got my dress from a boutique.” Definitely don’t lose hope if you can’t find a dress you like right away.
A lot of popular styles last year tended to be strapless and satin dresses, and I feel like the same will go this year. One of this year’s homecoming princesses, Parker Yee ‘26, notes, “Shopping for HOCO dresses is always a struggle! I am always scared of accidentally getting the same dress as someone. I always like to shop online to make the process easier.” There is definitely always pressure that someone else will have the same dress, but even if it happens, it is a fun twin moment.
Good luck shopping for dresses this homecoming season. Whether you have had your dress for weeks or are just starting to look, you will definitely find the perfect dress!
