As October begins, the Halloween season is upon us! This also means many Royals are taking the time to carefully plan their Halloween costumes. But I was thinking we should try to bring some of that Halloween magic and fun to our classes. So, what would each of our academic departments wear as their Halloween costume?
First, let’s start out with the English Department. With English, the options are endless! Many suggestions included “Frankenstein” themed options, like Mary Wollstonecraft, Mary Shelley, the Creature and Victor Frankenstein. For something more fun, Royals suggested “Harry Potter” costumes. Molly Betance ‘26 added, “I think the English Department would be bumble bees because they are so happy and bubbly.”
Now, what would the Math Department wear? Mikayla Hayward ‘26 suggested a pie costume! This would be a double-edged sword; a pie-inspired outfit would be super cute and fun, plus it could also represent the number pi (3.14). Another fun idea is Liz Mejia’s ‘26 costume: “The Math Department could be Ed Sheeran’s tour logo: plus, minus, equals, divide, multiply.” Math Department Head, Mrs. Davidson, chimed in as well, “The Math Department would be the super villain Vector because he accomplishes his goals using his advanced understanding of mathematics.”
The Science Department has a plethora of outfits to choose from. Some obvious choices would be Albert Einstein or Red Cross founder, Clara Barton. Senior Hannah Kelly also had a fun suggestion: “They could dress up as Sid the Science Kid.”

For the Social Studies Department, some easy picks would be Founding Fathers, “Hamilton” characters or even the Declaration of Independence. Royals also suggested that each of the Social Studies teachers could be a historical landmark, like the Great Pyramids, the Statue of Liberty, the Taj Mahal, the Great Wall of China or the Colosseum.
The World Languages Department could be separated by language. For French, we could have mimes. Spanish could be Matadors or la catrina (Day of the Dead skeletons). ASL teachers could be emojis or, for a spookier option, ghosts because they are silent. Lucy Delgado ‘28 added, “The world languages teachers could be the Duolingo birds.”
For the Fine Arts Department, there are plenty of great ideas! Bella Ramirez ‘26 suggested witch-themed costumes. This could be something fun and light, like “Wicked” characters, but it could also be interpreted as something a little scarier, like the “Macbeth” Weird Sisters. In addition, artists and art costumes would be fun. For example, one teacher could be Leonardo da Vinci, and another could be the “Mona Lisa.”

Last but not least, the Religion Department could feature a lot of unique costumes. They could be the Three Wise Men or saints like St. Michael the Archangel, Joan of Arc or Mother Teresa. For a sillier option, Mikayla Hayward suggested that they could each be a plague from the Israelites’ escape from Egypt.
I hope to see at least one of these great costume ideas on display this Halloween! Have fun planning your costumes, Rosary.
