Which club has won the best club award twice in the last year? Which club fosters positive debate and solutions to global problems? Which club is hosting its second conference this spring? Which club meets every Wednesday in Room 201? It’s Model United Nations, of course!
MUN members participate in conferences across Orange County. Weekly meetings train MUN delegates for their participation in these conferences; MUN is a simulation of the proceedings of the United Nations. The program encourages students to create meaningful and thoughtful solutions to real problems like climate change, violence against women and even topics such as dealing with waste in space.

To better describe the role of each delegate in MUN, I asked Club President, Tahlia Jain ‘26, who responded, “A delegate is basically the sole representative for a country. They are tasked with researching their country’s policies, developing potential solutions to whatever problem they may be discussing, writing and making speeches, and being a collaborative and kind leader and debater! The entire point of MUN is to collaborate with students (other ‘countries’) from other schools to develop a set of policy recommendations for a current global problem.”

Each committee (topic) has different levels, ranging from novice to advanced, so there is a place for everyone in MUN. In addition, there are special committees like war tribunals or dual-delegate committees in which participants get to represent their country with a buddy.
Social studies teacher and club moderator, Mrs. Ward, describes the benefits of participating in MUN, “I believe that participation in MUN allows students to live out some of the charisms of Rosary in ways they never would have considered before participating. It exposes Royals to a world view of social injustice and crisis from all over the world and allows them to attempt to solve those problems as a global community. They also must look at issues from multiple perspectives and not just from the West.” Agreed, coming from such a privileged area, students should seek to view the world through another perspective.
If all this sounds a little daunting, know that it’s actually very doable! MUN is one of those things that you’ll only get out what you put in. In committee, you can talk as little or as much as you like. MUN member Terry Chung ’27 adds, “I usually prepare for the upcoming MUN conference by mostly researching my assigned country’s policies, current crisis, and stance for the given motion. Once I’m done with my general research, I write an opening speech and practice speaking confidently.”
Even though club rush is over, MUN would still love to have you! If you’re interested in joining, contact [email protected], or to learn more, head to the Rosary MUN website.

What a great experience to be able to participate in the Model United Nations experience. The combination of intellectual rigor, practical skill development, and exposure to global perspectives makes MUN one of the more comprehensive extracurricular activities available to Rosary students. The skills developed—research, writing, speaking, and diplomacy are directly applicable to many career paths.

Love the part about that you’ll only get out of it what you put in.
