This past weekend, many Royals got to celebrate Mother’s Day with their mom, grandmas, aunts, and maternal figures. On May 10, “Dia de las Madres” was celebrated by Royals of Mexican, Salvadoran, Guatemalan, and Latin American heritage while Mother’s Day was celebrated by the rest of the United States (and the majority of Royals) on May 11. Thus, on a quest to find out how the Royals celebrated Mother’s Day, I decided to ask some of my fellow classmates how they spent their weekend.
Personally, I celebrated Mother’s Day with my family on Saturday, May 10. That morning, my sister went to buy the whole family bagels. Not long after, we went shopping for flowers and chocolates, and when we came back home, we gave all the gifts to my mom. To end off the day, my family and I went to San Clemente to eat dinner and walk around the beach. Overall, I had a great time celebrating my mom!

The rest of the Royals whom I interviewed, however, celebrated Mother’s Day in a different manner and on a different day. For example, sophomore Natalie Dampf and her family came together on Sunday to celebrate Mother’s Day: “My family just went out to lunch together at a cafe after going to mass. It wasn’t much but we don’t really spend a lot of time together so it meant something. Overall it was pretty chill, and the food was good too.”
Similar to Natalie, senior Kayla Tolentino also went out to lunch for Mother’s Day: “I went to downtown Disney on Sunday with my mom, grandma, dad and sister. We had a great lunch at jazz kitchen then walked around together and shopped!”
Junior Emma Ramirez, on the other hand, celebrated Mother’s Day with a lot more one-on-one time, stating, “On Mother’s Day we attended church in the morning, and then had spa day with my mom where we got our nails done! Later that evening we spent the night with my aunts at dinner.”
While every Royal celebrated Mother’s Day in their own unique way, all were united by the common theme of celebrating the wonderful and important maternal figures in our life. Therefore, whether it be by going to lunch, giving out gifts or going on a relaxing spa day, Mother’s Day was, across the board, a great day for many Royals and their families.
