This past Wednesday, the Rosary community united together in celebration of our Blessed Mother Mary for the annual May Crowning. For those who are not familiar with May Crowning, it is the Catholic tradition where in the month of May, we come together and crown Mary, the Queen of May, with flowers to honor her as our heavenly mother. This is our way to express our love and devotion to her, her son and the Catholic Church.
Rosary Academy held our very own Mass to honor our sacred mother. We went through Mass and at the end, the student and staff body had the honor of seeing Mary being crowned with the beautiful bouquet of red and white roses by seniors Sabrina Martin and Rachael Corbilla. With Mother’s Day this coming Sunday, this is the perfect way to celebrate and pay our respects to our ultimate mother.
Father Ian gave a beautiful Homily about our sacred Mother. He talked about the love and care Mary gives to the church and all her children. He reflected on what a great mother figure Mary is and how we should strive to be like her.
Sophomore Makayla Rodriguez expresses her great love for Mary as well as this sacred celebration. She says, “I have always loved May Crowning; it is such a beautiful ceremony. I love being able to see our heavenly Mother be crowned with those flowers. It is really powerful and very moving.”

Olivia Man ’27 shares similar feeling to Makayla. She states, “May Crowing is such a peaceful mass as well as really beautiful. I also love that it is so close to Mother’s Day. I think it is really cool and such a special way to honor Mary. This is the ultimate way to honor a very important mother figure.”
If you did not attend Mass on May Crowing, we highly recommend that you attend next year. As Olivia stated, it is the ultimate way we could honor our sacred, heavenly Mother. I think we can all agree that this mass hold great significance in the Catholic Church and should be religiously celebrated every may.
