Now that the month of May has begun, Advanced Placement (AP) exams begin next week, and many AP students are preparing for the most important exams of the school year. Royals have worked tirelessly all year to score well on their exams and earn college credit.
If you are a stressed AP student studying for all your exams, don’t worry. Here are plenty of tips from your fellow Royals to ensure that you succeed:
Senior Madeleine Cwiertney suggests, “Start studying early and watch YouTube videos, especially for the History exams. I watched Heimler’s History to study for my AP US History exam, and he helped a lot.” Madeleine’s advice is definitely one of the most important. If you begin early, you can study the material one day at a time. You can space out the units and focus on each topic efficiently. Also, YouTube videos are a great tool to take advantage of.
Senior Nahomi Saito has taken seven AP exams so far and will take six more this year. She said, “Studying with your classmates at a coffee shop is really beneficial because you can actively recall and discuss the material.” Group studying is definitely a great and fun idea.
Junior Kate Duarte has important advice as well. She suggested, “Be sure to get a good night’s rest before the exam. Especially if it is in the morning, you need to have plenty of energy for the long test.” Kate is right. Don’t stay up too late studying, or else you will be too tired on the day of.
I have taken multiple AP exams myself, and some advice I would give is to be aware of your time during the exam. This way, you can plan accordingly and type your responses without feeling rushed.
Additionally, don’t be afraid to reach out to your teachers for extra review and help. They have many resources and great advice!

On the day of the exam, be on time and don’t forget your number two pencils, pens, charger, snacks and water. Try to stay calm before you enter the exam and trust your abilities. More importantly, charge your laptop and test your Bluebook app prior to exam day.
Remember, your AP score does not define you. While it’s important to work hard and study, don’t forget to take brain breaks and leave time for things you enjoy.
