This past weekend, some Royals flew all the way to Austin, Texas to represent our school at the 97th Texas Relays. The track meet took place at Clyde Little Field Stadium at the University of Texas. The meet lasted from March 26 to March 29 for the high school section, while the college section lasted a little longer.
Juniors Justine Wilson and Jada Faison and freshmen Maliyah Collins and Tra’via Flournoy all competed in multiple different events throughout the weekend. All four of these girls competed hard; some even hit personal records. On Friday, Justine Wilson and Maliyah Collins competed in the 100-meter dash, qualifying for the finals on Saturday. “I was really nervous at first because it’s my first year in high school, but I’m very happy I ran a personal best and even qualified for the finals on Saturday,” said Maliyah Collins.
The team of four also qualified for the finals in the 4×200 on Saturday. On this day, the girls broke not only the schools 4×200 and 4×100 records, but also the Orange County records in both events as well. Justine Wilson went on to break the school’s and Orange County’s 100 meter record. Maliyah Collins also hit a personal best in her 100-meter and broke the frosh-soph record. All in all, Texas Relays was an amazing trip for the girls, and they are going to accomplish so much more this season. The 4×100 time is currently ranked second in the state, and the 4×200 time is currently ranked third in the state.

While the Texas meet went very well, many of the other girls ran amazing at the Orange County Championships, some running their very own personal records. That meet took place on Saturday, March 29 at Mission Viejo high school. Freshmen Mia Gamba and Emilia Cantos competed in the 800m, with both placing very well in the frosh-soph section. Freshman Lila Collins ran a personal best in the 100-meter dash, and she placed sixth overall in the frosh-soph section. Many other athletes competed, such as junior Caleigh Steward in the 300m hurdles and the 100m and Belen Santiago in the distance events.

This upcoming Saturday, Rosary will be competing at the Trabuco Invite held at Trabuco Hills High School. The track team is ready for all their hard work to be shown off this weekend, and hopefully many personal or school records can be beaten. Regine Manuel ’27 says “The whole team is super excited to run this Saturday. We’ve all been working so hard, and this Saturday is a huge meet and the perfect time to show it off. I’ve loved all the bonding the team has done this year, and I’m super excited to see how the rest of the season goes.”
Later today, the Royals will be competing at a meet in Laguna against Sage Hill and Laguna Beach High School. They will compete in a variety of events from the 100m to the mile to the long jump. The meet starts at 3 p.m., so make sure to come support. Let’s go, Royals!
