As freshmen step into the crazy world of high school, they are met with a whirlwind of new experiences and unforgettable memories that shape their lives for the next four years. This pivotal year is filled with excitement, challenges, and growth as students navigate the hallways, make new friends, and discover their passions.
From the thrill of attending their first rally to the nervousness of taking on advanced classes, every moment will create memories that will last a lifetime. In this article, I have interviewed freshmen Bella Lugo and Natalya Castellanos. They have both shared some of the challenges and favorite moments of their high school experience so far.
When asked about their favorite part of the year, they both shared that one of their favorite memories was Rosary’s beloved tradition, Red & Gold. Bella stated, “My favorite part of this year was definitely Red and Gold. I didn’t realize how much excitement and spirit it brought to the school until I experienced it myself. I was on Red, and unfortunately, we lost, but I still had one of the best times of my life and made so many new friends.”
Natalya shared two of her favorite parts of this year: “I had so much fun during my first year at Rosary. One thing I especially loved was Red and Gold. I had such a good time with the girls in my dance. I loved that I was able to dance with my Rosary big sister, Ella and my friend Nicole. I feel like Red and Gold brings all the girls in the school together and a great opportunity to meet new people. Another thing that I like about this year is big sister and little sister. I like that the school brings us all together and that the little sister gets to look up to their big sister, and I loved getting close to my big sister at school and on the golf team.”

Rosary has been impacting young women for almost 60 years and continues to make an impact in girls’ lives. Bella and Natalya shared how Rosary has already made an impact on their life in a short amount of time. Bella shared, “I’ve gained so much confidence, so many amazing friends, and a new, genuine feeling of community. I am able to be completely myself at school and don’t have to worry about what other people think.”
Rosary provides so many opportunities to express yourself and truly become a part of the community. Natalya added, “I have always looked up to Rosary girls since I was in 6th grade and I have always loved this school. It has changed me to be more responsible and to work hard for what I want. Rosary has changed my life in little ways so far, I will always love this school.”
One thing that surprises many new Royals is how much school spirit Rosary girls have. Natalya mentioned, “Something that surprised me at Rosary is the rallies because I didn’t know that you have to be so loud in the rallies, and it was so much fun, but I didn’t expect to be so loud, and you will never see it at other schools.” Nothing is quite like a Rosary rally. They are definitely very loud and full of passion.
Freshman year is always hard to navigate; it comes with many ups and downs and challenges. Bella expresses some of her big challenges this year, “My biggest challenge this year was probably coming into high school all by myself. I was the only one in my old class and I knew absolutely no one. I was super nervous about making new friends, but also grateful for the opportunity to try. I overcame this challenge by being more social, relaxed and putting myself out there, even when it was out of my comfort zone.” Even though she came into high school not knowing anyone, Bella shared that she has made so many amazing friends.
Freshman year comes with many different twists and turns, but with all the new changes, freshman year can be filled with so many amazing moments, and we hope that these Royals and all our freshmen get to make so many more.
