Rosary’s spring sports are in full swing and have been crushing it so far! While all the teams have been very busy, one team in particular, Varsity Softball, is driving to Las Vegas to participate in the Bishop Gorman tournament against different high schools and explore different parts of the famous city, epitomizing the ‘work hard, play hard’ mindset.
Tom Tice, Rosary’s assistant principal, athletic director and head coach of the softball team who has gone on this trip numerous times, stated, “This year will be the 14th year that varsity gets the chance to go to Las Vegas, and I know this team of girls is very excited. Every year, we compete against other schools and show off our loud and cheerful energy, while also bonding as a team.”
The high schools that our Royals will be playing include Bishop Gorman, Spanish Springs, Clovis, Coronado, and Salpointe. Bishop Gorman will host the majority of the round-robin tournament. The tournament is a great opportunity for our Royals to gain exposure and meet other softball players from around the country.

Senior Daleah Cardenas, who has also attended the Vegas tournament before, shared, “I really like spending time in the hotel rooms with my roomies; we even made a candy salad last year. I also enjoy the road trip there, listening to music and chatting in the vans or playing games to keep us company.” Hailey Huerta ’28 agreed, stating, “I am also very excited to go to Las Vegas with the varsity team and spend time with my teammates.” This is Huerta’s first year going with the varsity team alongside her older sister, Hayden Huerta ’27, and her mom, Mrs. Huerta ’94.
Although this is the seniors’ last year going to Las Vegas with their Royal sisters, many of them are able to say that they have created so many memories. Senior Domonique McCoy, one of the varsity catchers, spoke about her favorite memory from the trip, sharing, “My favorite memory from traveling to Vegas has been walking the strip and riding the roller coaster together. It’s a nice way to grow closer as a team before playing our games.”
Overall, this tournament is a great experience for the girls and coaches. Everyone is guaranteed to smile, cheer and have a great time enjoying each other’s company. If you know anyone on the team, make sure to wish them good luck on their games!
