Lastast weekend, the triathlon team took on the Join Forces Base, a public race with over 200 completers. Christina Vaughan ’26 won the age 15 to 19, and Catalina Ryan ’27 got second place. The team competed in a sprint triathlon consisting of a 200 meter pool swim, 13.1 kilometer bike ride and a 5k run. The Race on the Base was a major success.
This race was on an active Naval base in Los Alamitos. First-year triathlon runner Catalina Ryan shared that the last meet was amazing! She exclaimed, “We ran and biked on the tarmac and swam in their pool on the base. We were missing a lot of the team that day, but Christina and I were there together. Christina got first for our age group, and I got second.” Cat also shared how much she has been loving her first year on triathlon: “I feel so welcomed in my first year of triathlon. My coach has been very supportive and helpful all throughout my time, and my teammates make me so happy and excited to be on the team. I can’t wait to continue in this sport for the rest of the year and hopefully all throughout my life. I gained a great love for this sport this year and feel at home when in action, even though I have a lot more to learn.”
Captain Christina Vaughan ’26 shared, “It’s really fun to encourage my teammates and be there for practice.” Triathlon is gearing up for the next race on April 27th. Christina shared they have put in a lot of practice for their next race and added, “I like the course for the next race in Mission Viejo.” Cat exclaimed, “I am very excited for the upcoming meet. I love competing in triathlons and being recognized by so many people.”

The team has been practicing at Newport Dunes and Yorba Regional. The next course in Mission Viejo is a 5k run, 750 meter swim and a 20k bike ride.
The Royals are set to swim, bike, and run their way to victory! Good luck, Triathlon!
