“I do not like this song, Rosary plague is coming to town. Do not come to my town.” This week is the week of Red & Gold, and Royals are already sick! Usually, it hits everyone like a bus after the shows. This year, the Rosary Plague decided to come a week early. Everyone sneezing and having crunchy coughs is not what we need this week. Please stay home for a day and just recover. We need everyone’s full energy and health to push through this weekend.
If you are unaware of what the Rosary Plague is, it’s a really bad cold that every single person usually gets after Red & Gold. After having post-Red & Gold depression, adding that extra touch of a rock-solid cold is probably one of the worst illnesses you will ever have. Emma Muse ‘26 has been sick for what I feel is a century. She told me the real facts: “I’ve been sick for what feels like forever—but I think I’ve traced it back to around January 23. It started with headaches, and then a cold, and then a fever, and then the flu, and now it’s ending with a double ear infection. It’s safe to say I’ve had my fair share of sickness these past few weeks, and hopefully, it’ll end soon. However, I can confidently say that if I lose Red and Gold, my sickness might end me.” I’m sorry to say that you’re most likely going to get even more sick after Saturday night, Emma.

Gold Producer Ava Barreto ‘25 has also had the same problem. Here is what she shared: “I have been sick for a little bit over a month now, and it began just a few days before the Red & Gold Kickoff. I honestly have no idea what is wrong with me or what kind of sickness I have. It also doesn’t help that I have been to the doctor three times, and every time they say that they don’t know what’s wrong; my lungs are clear, I don’t have bronchitis or pneumonia, so I’m just stuck with no diagnosis and a cough that I have had for a month. Over the Red & Gold weekend, I think my sickness will get worse. My voice is already almost gone from coughing so much, but with being around everyone, screaming, and just using my voice all the time, this weekend will definitely make me worse.” We wish you the best of luck for a full recovery by next week, Ava.
Although junior Olivia O’Day has only been sick for a few days, she has already lost her voice almost completely: “I guess that’s what you get for telling the girls in your drill to smile like they have never smiled before,” stated Olivia. “I’m planning on getting rid of this cold after this weekend because I just can’t deal with it at the moment.”
Crunchy coughs, sore throats, and runny noses are only some of the many symptoms of the Rosary Plague. Teachers… you better restock all of your tissues in your classrooms, because they are going to be gone very very soon. Take your vitamins and get lots of rest. See you all next week while we all suffer from THE Rosary Plague.
