The Lenten season is finally here, and Royals are ready for 40 days of prayer, fasting and almsgiving in preparation for Easter. After Ash Wednesday Mass with Bishop Kevin Vann, Royals had a great start to their Lenten journey.
When it comes to a Lenten promise, many Royals, including myself, had a difficult time deciding what they were going to sacrifice or take up in order to better their lives and their relationships with God. However, now that Lent is here, Royals should know by now what they are going to change.
I asked many Royals what they are changing in their daily routines in honor of Lent. Senior Sydney Hastert shared, “I’m giving up Instagram because I think it will be really hard and I want a good challenge.” Giving up social media, specifically Instagram, is definitely a hard choice. Senior Erin Searle added, “I’m giving up overeating because I am trying to refrain from gluttony and greed.”

Junior Sophia Barrera shared her lenten sacrifice: “I’m giving up refined sugar because I want to focus on healthier and natural foods.” That’s a great choice, Sophia.
For the underclassmen, sophomore Nattie Valdovinos said, “I am giving up soda because I drink it pretty often so it will be a good sacrifice.”
It is amazing how many Royals are practicing commitment and dedication this Lenten season. Let us not forget the reason for Lent as Jesus suffered for our sins.
If you are still unsure on what to give up for Lent, remember you can always take up a good habit in order to strengthen your faith.
