This past Sunday, the Academy presented the 97th Oscars Awards show, highlighting many of 2025’s most renowned films. I’m sure many of us were sitting in front of our TVs, anxiously awaiting to see who would take each award. Moreover, whether or not you are happy with the outcomes, I think we can all agree that this ceremony held many iconic moments:
- The James Bond Tribute
During the show, several celebrities performed a tribute to the James Bond franchise after it was recently bought by Amazon. After a speech from Halle Berry, performers Margaret Qualley, Lisa, Doja Cat and Raye all created a special production that is sure to be remembered for years to come. Alexis Perez ‘27 described her love for this performance: “It was really good, and I really enjoyed the singing. I’m not the biggest fan of Doja Cat, but I thought she did a great job.”
2. Adam Sandler
I’m sure everyone has seen the recent photos of Adam Sandler in basketball shorts at the Oscars. With a reputation for wearing an extremely baggy, relaxed style, this actor took his notoriety to another level when he showed up with this outfit to the exclusive, elegant event. I also have to mention his Chalamet skit, which was hilarious. On Sandler’s entire appearance, Gianna Sorensen ’26 commented, “I loved it so much. I was on my toes the entire time. I also love Adam Sandler. I’m such a big fan.”

3. The “Anora” Sweep
With a box office of a heaping $41.3 million and 93% on rotten tomatoes, “Anora” is surely deserving of every nomination and award it received. Speaking of nominations and awards, this film won five of the six nominations it received, earning awards as esteemed as Best Picture and Best Original Screenplay. After all its praise, I definitely need to give this movie a watch!
4. The “Wicked” Opener
With the recent hype of the film “Wicked,” it only felt right that Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande perform for the 2025 Oscars opener. While they performed songs from the award-winning film, these women also decided to pay tribute to the history of Oz, singing songs from previous cinematic adaptations that were set in this fictional world.
Overall, it is clear that 2024 was an iconic year for filmmaking, setting the tone for many future films to come. As an Oscars fan, I can’t wait for the next one!
