This past Saturday at the Eagle invitational in Santa Margarita, Rosary’s very own track team competed alongside Servite. They were able to beat out many good teams, such as Santa Margarita, Western High School, Orange Lutheran and Esperanza High School. It was the first official meet of the 2025 track season.
Many athletes ran really well at the Eagle Invitational, and some even broke personal or school records. Emilia Cantos ‘28 placed second in the JV girls mile, and her teammates Mia Gamba ’28 and Melissa Lopez ‘28 were not far behind. “It was so much fun and there were so many personal records in the races, I’m so grateful for all of my teammates and the other girls who encouraged me,” says Lopez. Belen Santiago ‘26 also ran really well in the mile in the varsity race. She placed seventh and ran a time of 5:30, placing her on the top 10 all-time list for Rosary Track and Field.

The relays also went well: even though Rosary ran no relays, Servite won the 4x100M for both JV and varsity. Servite’s varsity team ran a time of 41.56, placing them second on the Servite all-time list. Athletes Regine Manuel ‘27, Ruby Leon ‘26 and Erin Searle ‘25 all competed in the 100-meter dash, and they all ran very well. Throughout the day, Rosary had a few more wins, such as Ava Graham ‘26, who won girls JV discus and girls JV shotput throw. All in all, the meet went great for all Rosary and Servite athletes who competed.
This past Wednesday, the Royals competed again at the Los Alamitos quad meet. This was a smaller meet, with only four schools in attendance: Rosary, Servite, Western and Los Alamitos. Once again, the Royals ran well. In the mile, the Royals placed first through fourth on JV. On the varsity side, Santiago placed fourth and Cantos placed sixth. After the mile was the 4x100M; Rosary’s team of Tra’via Flournoy ‘28, Justine Wilson ‘26, Jada Faison ‘26 and Maliyah Collins ’28 beat the school record by half a second! With a time of 46.82, they broke the meet record, the school record and are ranked first in the state so far. After that, Collins ran a time of 59.32 in the 400m, putting her first on the all-time list for Rosary freshmen. Servite sophomore Blaise Burwell won the 110M hurdles by over four seconds and set a new Servite record. Junior Caleigh Steward had the fastest time in the 100M for Rosary girls. Searle, Manuel, junior Elizabeth Mejia, and freshman Autry Lee also all ran amazing in the 100M. “I ran very good and I’m happy with my results,” Regine Manuel reflected.
Although everyone ran great, there is always more work to be done. Servite Freshman Jacob Jackson claims, “I ran well in all of my events, but there is still work to do and ways in which I can improve myself.” All around, the meet was very fun and a great experience for first-year runners. “It was a fun and exciting way of trying new things and meeting lots of new people,” expresses Leon.

This upcoming Saturday, on March 1, Rosary will be attending their second invitational meet of the year. This meet is called the “Mustang Roundup,” and it will be held at Trabuco Hills High School in Mission Viejo. Both the Rosary Royals and the Servite Friars will be competing in many different events, ranging from long jump, to the 100-meter dash, to the mile, to discus and the relays. Good luck this weekend, Royals, and congrats to the Royals and the Friars on their amazing start to the 2025 season!
