In 2021, Rosary kicked off its first-ever season of beach volleyball. Since then, many have participated in the program including senior Chelsea Beltran. As a dual-sport athlete, Beltran started her indoor volleyball career in 2nd grade and has continued playing the sport ever since. On ther other hand, her beach volleyball career did not begin until her junior year in 2024.
During the fall indoor season, you will most likely see Beltran wearing a jersey color different from her teammates because she is positioned to play as a defensive specialist or libero. On her favorite way to play volleyball, Chelsea stated, “I prefer indoor volleyball over beach volleyball, but they are both super fun!” As she reflects on the past 10 years of playing volleyball, Beltran emphasizes the importance of spending quality time with her team and counting on them for support: demonstrating a perfect example of teamwork and sportsmanship.
When asked about her favorite memory as a part of the Rosary’s indoor volleyball team, Beltran exclaimed, “My favorite memory has to be going to Hawaii as a team for a tournament! It was a super fun experience and my favorite moment was when the entire team woke up at around 5 a.m. and went for a sunrise swim.”
While Beltran dedicated more than half of her life to indoor volleyball, she is currently spending her final season of high school playing beach volleyball. Beltran reminisces, stating, “My favorite beach volleyball memory would be any time we take the bus to away games, and my teammates and I get to bond while braiding each other’s hair.” Looking forward to the season ahead, Beltran says she is excited yet sad to finish off her high school beach volleyball career.
Beltran is a well-rounded athlete and a model of true sportsmanship; it is evident that she will accomplish great things in the future! Beach Volleyball has games every week up until April 16.
