A couple of weeks ago, our Rosary Model United Nations team competed in the Los Alamitos High School MUN conference. Five girls represented the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea with Terry Chung ‘27 and Estella Gu ‘26 being a duo along with Christina Vaughan ‘26 and Grace Raskopf ‘25. Tahlia Jain ‘26 competed solo in a court trial during the conference. For those who don’t know, Model UN is a club that simulates the United Nations in which you represent a country as its delegate in a conference. Our Model UN team travels to compete against other high schools in various conferences.
On her experience at this past conference, Jain shares, “In general, the conference was a big success and I’m proud of all the girls. It was hard to find information on the DPRK. We had people researching a bunch of different topics such as AI integration in healthcare. After researching, they wrote speeches and presented on their solutions or opinions on their topics to the other schools at the conference. What I did was a bit more specialized: I participated in a trial where I determined guilt or innocence of the former Yugoslavian president.”

Representing the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea is certainly no easy undertaking, but it was just another feat for our Model UN. Vaughan tells me more about her experience representing the DPRK at the conference: “The Los Al MUN was especially fun because I participated in a dual-delegate conference, so I had a support system the entire way through the conference. It was definitely interesting trying to represent the DPRK, but I also liked getting to work with countries I usually avoid.” Despite the challenging task, our Model UN girls never fail to rise to the occasion.
Congrats to our Model UN team for their accomplishments at the Los Alamitos Conference and a special congrats to Terry Chung ’27 and Estella Gu ’26 for their commendation! Rosary will be hosting their very own Model UN conference on April 12, so make sure to check it out if you’re curious about how a Model UN conference works.
