Everyone knows that Valentine’s Day celebrates love and romance between couples, but who say’s you can’t celebrate self-love? Who says you can’t take yourself out to a nice dinner or even have a scenic solo picnic? Not everyone has found their “other half” quite yet, and these people deserve just as much attention on this beloved day as well. So, I have created a list of activities for these single-pringles on Valentine’s Day:
First up, learning a new skill is a great way to appreciate yourself and celebrate self-love on Valentine’s Day. Whether that be taking a pottery class, roller skating or trying anything else that’s new, there is no better time to start picking up a new hobby than the day of love.

Second, while Valentine’s Day may celebrate romantic love, what about platonic? This special day is a great way to gather up your friends and toast to your love for them instead of a significant other. Kate Piper ’25 will be celebrating with friends when she’s “probably be going to rack up some Red & Gold points at Comedy Sportz.” Sounds like a blast, Kate!
Next up, in a similar way, we could spend Valentine’s Day with our families! This celebration is also a perfect time to visit family and remember that familial love is just as important.
Lastly, going off of self-love, taking time to simply wind-down and relax on your own is another perfect way to spend this holiday. Allow yourself to take a mini-vacation and have a lazy day. Sleep in until noon, watch Netflix all day and DoorDash your favorite restaurant because, even though you may not be in a relationship, you are just as deserving of a good day. Another junior Royal will be doing exactly this, saying, “I’m probably going to stay home and watch ’10 Thing I Hate About You’ as I go to sleep.” What an ideal night.
While being in a relationship seems great, it is not necessary to celebrate love on Valentine’s Day. We should all take this day to celebrate any kind of love, including self-love, and realize that Valentine’s Day is much more than a festival of romantic love.
