As one of Rosary’s most accomplished programs, it is no surprise that the Water Polo team has made it to the CIF playoffs. The girls had their first game in the CIF-SS Girls Water Polo Division 1 Championships on Feb. 6 and they played a tough game. Ultimately, the score was 12:9 with Madilyn Ekstrom ’25 and Alexis Velazquez ’25 making three goals, Maya Sarabia ’25 making two, Stacy Stroud ’25 making one and Tyler Jackson ’25 making ten saves. Thus, while the Water Polo season has officially come to a close, we are still immensely proud of the team and all their achievements.
To get a better idea of the inner workings of this amazing team, I decided to ask my fellow senior, Madilyn Ekstrom, some questions about her experiences playing for Rosary’s Water Polo team.
First up, I asked the brilliant and talented Madilyn Ekstrom, who was awarded All-Trinity League last season how she was feeling about the championship game on the 6: “I am super excited for tomorrow’s game as Laguna Beach is a great team and the last time, we played them it was a super competitive and close game.” On the team’s journey to CIF playoffs, Madilyn added, “To get to this point has been a lot of hard work, it has taken a lot of hard work and dedication. We have put a lot of time into practice and improving as a team and while it has been hard it has also been very fulfilling.”

An equally dedicated and accomplished student, I also asked Madilyn if she had any advice about balancing school and sports: “Some advice I have for people balancing school and sports is to know that (at least for water polo and other team sports) you have a team for a reason. No matter what has happened with your day, your teammates have your back. Whether you’re just not playing your “best” or you just had a hard test, there are always people who are there for you and are rooting for you to do your best!”
Congratulations to these wonderful Royals for an impressive sports season. Go Royals!
