As January closes, seniors have already heard back from colleges, with many committing for sports or arts. Now is a good time to do a check-in with some seniors who have already been accepted into amazing colleges.
1. Maddie Ekstrom ’25
Earlier this year, Maddie committed to Marist College for water polo and tells me how she’s feeling about continuing her water polo career in New York: “I am super excited to be able to experience life on the east coast! Marist is located right on the Hudson and is not too far from New York City so I am really excited to be able to experience both what it is like to live in a small town and still be able to go to a big city! I am also super excited for the weather and nature as I love fall, the rain and snow (which all is not super prominent here).”
2. Sydney Hastert ’25
One of the schools Sydney is considering is Baylor, so she plans to visit the school and meet other admitted students: “This weekend I’m going to Baylor’s invitation to excellence program where a select number of admitted students get to meet the professors, attend lectures and network with other peers. After the weekend, I believe we all write an essay; then, based on that and our interactions with staff, one student will be given a full ride. I’m going with my friend, so even if I don’t get the full ride, I’ll have fun.”
3. Elizabeth Larson ’25

Lizzie recently got accepted to Notre Dame and expresses to me her excitement at this accomplishment: “When it comes to Notre Dame their main focus is on community, so I knew I needed to emphasize in my application how excited I would be to join that community and discuss how I have been involved in my current Rosary community. If I go there (which I’m 99% sure I am), I’m super excited for football season and any chance to study abroad.” Many of Lizzie’s family members attend or have attended Notre Dame, including her sister and Rosary alumna Mary Larson ’23.
4. Veronica Mercado ’25
Roni got into two great schools that she is considering attending: “Villanova and University of Michigan were my some of my top schools when applying for college. I couldn’t believe it when I read the acceptance letters and I’m just so excited to be accepted to these schools! I will hopefully be attending one of them in the fall, but I do have to wait to hear from a couple other schools. I’m so excited for college and just a new environment and experience, so I think either one of these schools will be so much fun!”
5. Grace Raskopf ’25
Grace has recently been accepted into a great school and shares with me why she is excited about this acceptance: “I am so excited and grateful to have gotten into USC; it’s definitely one of my top choices! I’m really looking forward to living in Los Angeles and going to football and basketball games if I commit.”
Congrats to these seniors and any other seniors who have gotten accepted into college! Remember during this waiting period to be proud of what you’ve done thus far and to enjoy your last semester of high school before college.
