Every year I look forward for one Sunday night in February: The Grammys! The 67th Grammy Awards took place in LA this year and were definitely one for the books. If you also love the Grammys, read more about the major highlights of this event from my perspective.
First off, the Red Carpet and the pre-show of the Grammys were filled with beautiful outfits. One dress that caught my eye was Sabrina Carpenters light blue JW Anderson dress. It was definitely giving “Espresso” vibes, and I was here for it! “Espresso” also went on to win a Grammy for Best Pop Solo Performance.
The awards are my favorite part of the show; I make my predictions before the show to see how accurate I am. One notable win was Sabrina Carpenter winning the Best Pop Vocal Album. Jamie Miyashiro ’27 shares, “I’m proud of what she has overcome. She has faced so much adversity in the music industry that isn’t really recognized. Sabrina hasn’t been taken very seriously as an artist, from transitioning from Disney star to pop star and I’m glad she is having her moment. “Short N’ Sweet” was such a good album and had songs for all different types of moods I’m in, it had the perfect mix of slow emotional songs and fast songs I could dance to!”
I was going a strong 3/3 on my predictions of who would win what category until Record of the Year. As some of you may know, that award went to Kendrick Lamar for his hit song “Not Like Us.” Lamar also went 5/5 and swept: he won all the categories in which he was nominated, including Song of the year, Record of the Year, Best Music Video, Best Rap Song and Best Rap Performance.
Shakira won Best Latin Album with her “Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran” album. Sophomore and Shakira fan Lucy ChoiseulPraslin ’27 says, “One of my favorite parts of the show was as she won for her album. Not only did I enjoy every song on her album, but she also hugged her sons when she first won. During her speech, she also thanked them and said how she loved them. This whole moment was super wholesome and really cute.” Shakira also performed at the show.
With the Grammys also being a fundraiser for the recent fires in LA, many artists performed songs about California. Bruno Mars and Lady Gaga performed a beautiful rendition of “California Dreamin'” by The Mamas & The Papas.
With all of the fashion, performances, and competitive award categories, the Grammys never disappoint. If you have a favorite part of The Grammys, comment below with your thoughts!
