It is no surprise that Rosary girls love their coffee. A signature Philz Coffee or Starbucks drink has become a necessity for every Rosary girl’s morning routine. But, what about coffee’s green counterpart, matcha? In the past couple years, this drink has become wildly popular, and this popularity definitely did not stop short of Rosary Academy. After seeing the sheer amount of matcha-loving students walking around campus, I can assure you that Rosary girls are fully capable of putting together an ultimate matcha guide.
First, we are taking a trip to San Francisco for the famous Matcha Café Maiko. While the location I tried was in the Bay Area, this matcha chain has several locations in San Diego, Rowland Heights, Sacramento and more. I am not lying when I say this was one of the best matcha lattes (and matcha ice creams) I have ever had. I know it’s far, but if you ever happen to be in the area, make sure you stop by.
Second, we have Sip & Savor Coffee. While it may have “coffee” in the name, this shop located in Downtown Fullerton serves up amazing matcha. Their specialty is a Matcha Tiramisu Latte, which is a matcha latte topped with mascarpone cream and a lady finger. Whenever you get the chance, I highly recommend you give it a try!
Third, Nahomi Saito ’25 recommends Little Ox Coffee in Fullerton: “A new favorite shop near school is called Little Ox! Their iced matcha latte is amazing and it’s a quiet study spot.” I agree, Nahomi. I loved this shop when I gave it a try, and I am sure you will to.
Fourth, a place that famously serves top-rated matcha is Stereoscope Coffee, which has locations in Newport Beach, Long Beach and more. This shop serves three different types of matcha to choose from: Nakama, Yorokobi and Ujigawa, all ranging from different undertones and sweetness levels. Sophia Aquino ’25 also suggested trying this shop: “My favorite matcha spot is Stereoscope Coffee. There’s one in Buena Park, which is super close to my house, and it’s so good! The taste and color are amazing and it’s the perfect place to study. I definitely recommend!” If that doesn’t make Stereoscope Coffee sound legit, then I don’t know what will. This place is truly worth the hype.
Fifth, we have another recommendation from Nahomi, who said, “My favorite matcha spot is at the coffee shop I work at, Brew Story, even though I’m probably biased.” Don’t worry, Nahomi, you’re definitely not biased. This shop was recently made popular on Tiktok, and there is no questioning why. While the lines may be long, the wait will definitely worth it once you try their iced matcha latte.
Last, but certainly not least, Celine Asido ’25 suggested a small matcha business located in Irvine named Junbi: “I love getting matcha at this place called Junbi Matcha & Tea—their menu has a lot of different drinks with matcha infused in them. My personal favorite drink is the Mango Matcha Latte because it’s so sweet and refreshing!” Wow, after hearing that review, I will definitely have to give this place a try.
After hearing all of these recommendations, it seems like Royals definitely know what they’re doing when it comes to matcha. Make sure to head over to some of these places, and let us know what your matcha recommendations are!
