RED AND GOLD IN THE HOUSE WOOT WOOT! It’s that time of year again. The endless practices during the school day to perfect whatever category you are in for Red and Gold have begun. On Jan. 29, we started our first Red and Gold practice of the season, so get ready for Flex every day. Some people, especially freshmen, have never heard of or seen a Red and Gold performance and are probably really confused on what this all is. Keep reading to learn what to expect during this next month of Red and Gold practices. Don’t worry, you will LOVE IT!
Dance and drill are one of the most tiring categories you can choose. Is it still super fun and exciting? Yes, of course! Dance splits the gym in half with Gold on one side and Red on the other. You start learning your dances on the first day of Flex, and you don’t stop until the actual performance.
Drill spreads out onto the lawn to practice their choreography. This is a perfect time to make new friends in different grade levels. Everyone wants to help each other make their dance or drill the best, so don’t be shy to reach out to other Royals during this next month.
Drill captain Mikayla Hayward ‘26 has been working hard to make her drill perfect, and she is ready to teach her fellow Royals her exciting drill. She stated, “It’s ok to feel a little uncomfortable and nervous at first, but don’t put too much pressure on yourself. Just remember to have fun and smile! You will do amazing!”
Gold Co-Producer Michaela Watson ‘26 was on drama last year and did a phenomenal job of playing the lead role on Red team, Ruby Valentine. She excitedly advised, “Try new things with your characters. Be prepared to try saying lines in different tones and really being able to dig deep with how you want your character to be portrayed on stage. Auditioning for anything can be nerve-wracking but your drama captains make everyone feel comfortable and it’s always a lot of fun. Don’t wait to memorize your lines!”
Drama will be practicing in specific classrooms where you will audition, get your roles and start learning your lines. Although learning a whole script is hard, you will find a way to perfect your role and shine brightly on stage.
Choral will be practicing their songs and making their voices sound beautiful in classrooms as well. Remember to learn the lyrics and harmonies to help your choral group be the best. And for every other category like stage tech and props. Do your best! Try some new things and give suggestions so you can help your team out. You are all creative and will do amazing. You bring our stage to life.
Freshman Gabby Randall Felix has been excited to start her Red and Gold experience. She shared, “I am excited to get to know new people in the same category as me. I’m just overall excited to have a fun experience with my friends!” Everyone should try to have this mentality when going into Red and Gold this season.
We have all been waiting for this moment to finally arrive! You will all do amazing, and we can’t wait to see everyone’s final productions. Happy Red and Gold, Royals!
