Starting the first week of 2025, our southern California community has been devastated by many fires. In the greater Los Angeles area, over 12,000 structures including houses, businesses, and schools have been destroyed. At least 24 people have died and 100,000 have been forced to evacuate. The three major fires (the Palisades Fire, Eaton Fire and Hurst Fire) have burned up to 40,300 acres. In response, the community of SoCal has come together to help restore the community.
One of our charisms at Rosary is to serve the dear neighbor without distinction. In the following weeks, Rosary Academy will have the opportunity to help all those who have been affected by the fires. For example, PAL has hosted various different spirit dress days to raise money for all those affected by the fire this week.
Next week, from Tuesday through Thursday, you can pay $5 to wear different pants to support LA wildfire victims. On Jan. 21, you can wear pajama pants; on Jan. 22, you can wear sweatpants; and on Jan.23, you can wear jeans.
On the upcoming fundraisers, PAL member Melina Gonzalez ‘26 shared, “ You should support because these fires have had a lot of negative effects on the families in the L.A. community. We are very blessed, so we must help those who have lost everything and make this time of difficulty a little easier.” Moreover, on how she has been serving the dear neighbor, Senior Isabella Solis added, “I am doing my part by helping out the community and serving at a food bank in LA this weekend as well as the jeans days next week.”
Don’t forget to bring money next week to support those in need during this difficult time!
