SWISH! ‘Tis the season for layups and three pointers. Our phenomenal Rosary basketball teams started their first league games this week. We have trained and worked very hard over these last few months to gain strength and skill to show how much we have grown as a team. With this new league comes new challenges to overcome, and we are ready!
On Tuesday, Jan. 7, we had our first league game against Portola High School. The game didn’t go as planned, but the team learned a lot from it. Our amazing captain, Kate Duarte ‘26, gave her opinion on what she thought about our game on Tuesday. She stated, “I think the game on Tuesday was OK overall. It was hard to lose when we knew we could have won if we executed properly and fully showed up. It was a learning experience for the team, and we all got better. We could have pressed them better and lowered the number of turnovers because it turned into free points for them. We scored well and worked hard but didn’t end up with the win. We are ready for the next time we play them.”
Our coach, Coach Aragon, was a little tense the other night after our loss. But what he said should inspire our team to get extra motivated and pumped for our next game: “We are in a must win situation, and the way we play tonight will demonstrate that. The overall approach is that we will play harder and with more urgency than we did on Tuesday. We will pressure more and be on the attack instead of waiting to be pressed; we will be the aggressor. We will be more intentional in execution instead of just assuming we can run a play. I am extremely confident that we will win!”
We practiced hard on Wednesday to show that we can be aggressive and that we are capable of beating the other teams. Yesterday, we defeated Los Osos High School 60-36. We worked very hard and got the outcome we all wanted. We will continue to grow and flourish this month to make it to our goal: PLAYOFFS!
