Christmas is coming up, and it’s important to get into the holiday spirit. There are many different Christmas traditions that people or families do. For instance, my family wears matching pajamas on Christmas eve. Some families go on vacation, others go ice skating and some enjoy caroling.
Baking is a fun and delicious holiday tradition that some families do every year. Servite junior Anthony Lombardi described, “My tradition is making an assortment of Christmas-themed cookies with my grandma every year before Christmas. Then, we eat them with our Christmas meals.” Senior Emmanuel Santiago‘s Christmas tradition consists of “making chocolate Abuelita and eating conchas or la Rosca Pan.”
Sometimes, just being around your family in general can help you get into the Christmas spirit. Singing Christmas songs with family can help you grow closer to each other during the holidays. “My family likes to sit in the living room and sing a whole book of Christmas songs,” said Rosary junior Claire Murphy.
Junior Miabella Baeza‘s family enjoys decorating as part of their Christmas tradition: “Every Christmas, my family does a Christmas decorating day. We usually have family and friends come over to help while we watch ‘The Polar Express.'”
There also many other Christmas traditions that focus on the true meaning of the holiday: Jesus’ birth. Ian Rena ’26 expressed, “Before midnight on Christmas Eve, we pray the Rosary.” Some Christmas traditions are fun sports activities or competitions. Senior Elizabeth Ramos stated, “We like to do Secret Santa and open gifts at midnight, then we play different sports games.”
In all, Christmas is a fun holiday, and hanging out with family can really put someone into the Christmas spirit. Although every family is different, we all enjoy coming together to celebrate the birth of Christ. Have a great break and Merry Christmas!
