Earlier this week, at the Mass of the Immaculate Conception, we recognized the winner of the Christina Burmeister Memorial Scholarship: Christina Vaughan ‘26. The Christina Burmeister Memorial Scholarship was established by her parents, Drs. Clifford and Rosalia Burmeister, after Christina’s death in 2001. Christina Burmeister ‘98 was a dedicated writer for the Royal Reporter for three years and was Editor-in-Chief her senior year. She was beloved by all who knew her and her legacy lives on to this day.
On who Christina Burmeister was as a person, Mrs. Pontius ’03 shares, “[Christina] was a conscientious student who displayed a deep concern for others and an outstanding spirit of involvement within the Rosary community.”
This year, the Royal Reporter’s very own Editor-in-Chief Christina Vaughan is the winner of the Christina Burmeister Memorial Scholarship. On what winning this scholarship means to her, Vaughan shares, “I am so honored to receive the Christina Burmeister Scholarship. I was excited to apply for the scholarship because she sounded so much like me and I participate in many of the same things she did at Rosary. I hope to honor her legacy by maintaining academic excellence in all my classes and imitating the generosity and kindness she exhibited on campus.”
Assistant Editor-in-Chief Bella Ramirez ’26 provides her thoughts on having a member of the Royal Reporter receiving such an honor: “I was super proud of Christina when she received the scholarship. When they were describing the recipient, I knew it had to be her. I ‘m so proud of her and can’t wait to see her pursue her journalism dreams!”
Congrats Christina–we’re so proud of you at the Royal Reporter and are excited to see what you accomplish at Rosary and beyond!
