With the holidays comes many delicious treats. Although there are many delectable foods and drinks, there are some that aren’t my favorite. Disclaimer: these are opinions just my opinions. I am very happy you enjoy some of the treats that some other people don’t love. Here are my ratings of some of the most popular holiday treats that I see everywhere during the Christmas season:
- Hot Chocolate: I would rate hot chocolate a solid 8/10. It’s best when you drink it near the fireplace with all of your Christmas decorations up while watching a Christmas movie. Plain hot chocolate is alright, but adding a candy cane and little marshmallows to it makes it extra good. Brooke Selinger ‘26 stated, “I think it’s overrated. It’s too hot and basic. I always burn my tongue. It’s just powdered chocolate and milk or water. Don’t get it. Unless you love hot chocolate. You do you.”
- Pillsbury Christmas cookies: These are 6/10. I know this might shock you, but they are only good right when they get out of the oven. They also leave a weird aftertaste in my mouth. Bella Vallejo ‘26 strongly disagrees with me. She exclaimed, “I’m actually obsessed with them. There are always at least 2 packs in the fridge at all times. They are a staple throughout the year, but especially during the holidays.”
- Gingerbread: Hear me out. Gingerbread is a 4/10. It leaves a weird taste in my mouth. I gave it some points because making gingerbread houses is really fun. They also make cute decorations. The smell of gingerbread is amazing, but the taste is not my favorite. One Royal shared her love for gingerbread: Lexie Curtis ‘27 strongly proclaimed, “I LOVE gingerbread! The creamy icing on a spice filled journey of wonderment. When I eat it, it makes me want to run away like the little gingerbread man, because I fear something very bad will happen if I am around too many gingerbread flavored items.”
- Cinnamon Rolls: Even though you can eat them all year round, they are just better during Christmas time. They deserve an outstanding 9/10. Nothing beats fresh, warm and soft cinnamon rolls that melt in your mouth on a cold winter’s morning. We eat so many of them on Christmas morning. Bella Lugo ‘28 gave her opinion, saying, “I love cinnamon rolls so much! They have to be warm and have a lot of cinnamon and icing. My family always makes cinnamon rolls during Christmas time when my older sister comes home for the holidays!”
- Candy Cane: 10/10. Hands down, it is easily my favorite Christmas candy. You can put it in most of the treats we listed above, and it makes everything more delicious. I can eat at least five of them a day. They are so nostalgic! If I had a whole pack that could last me the whole year, I doubt they would even last two months. Mikayla Purwadi ‘25 disagreed and said, “I’m not a big fan. The taste is sometimes too sweet for me. I like how it’s like a lollipop and that it’s not completely sweet. I just think there are better holiday candies.”
There are many other holiday treats that are enjoyed through this season, but these seem to be the most popular and well known by our fellow Royals. I can’t wait to eat most of these during the next few weeks. Let us know what your favorite holiday treat is.
